Clorox vs. Campbell's: why the 6.1% yield beats the 5.3% after a 36% dividend cut

Campbell's cut its quarterly dividend 36% to $0.25 a share on September 3, 2026, to pay down debt faster. That leaves it yielding 5.3%, against 6.1% for Clorox. Clorox raised its quarterly dividend to $1.25 from $1.24 on July 31. Yet it paid out 149% of its free cash flow in dividends in fiscal 2026, against 69% for Campbell's. Analysts expect those ratios to fall to 71% and 40% in fiscal 2027. Clorox's figure depends on its free cash flow more than doubling to $881 million. Clorox expects fiscal 2027 sales to rise 13% to 14%, helped by its GOJO acquisition. Campbell's expects sales to fall 2% to 4%.

Campbell's backs Per Scholas manufacturing training in Milwaukee with $500K

Per Scholas, a nonprofit that provides no-cost training for high-growth careers, has partnered with The Campbell's Company to launch its first Advanced Manufacturing Technician program in Greater Milwaukee. Campbell's is investing $500,000, including $250,000 to fund the first cohort. The 15-week program will train 25 learners for entry-level manufacturing and industrial technology jobs. The 400+ hour curriculum covers industrial electricity, fluid power, motor-driven systems, and precision maintenance, along with OSHA-10 and NFPA 70E safety credentials. Per Scholas built the curriculum after a year of planning, site visits, and a benchmarking study of more than 200 technicians. It plans to use the programme as a blueprint for other communities. According to a Deloitte report, US manufacturing will need 1.9 million more workers by 2033.

Campbell's raises $300M in subordinated notes as sales slump and dividend is cut 36%

The Campbell's Company has completed a $300 million offering of fixed-to-floating rate subordinated, unsecured notes due April 5, 2057. The notes are callable and carry a variable coupon. The sale comes as investors weigh falling unit sales and pressure on earnings. Weak volumes in Snacks and Meals & Beverages remain the biggest risk to revenue and profit. Campbell's also cut its quarterly dividend by 36% to $0.25 per share. Together with the new debt, the move suggests the company is putting cash preservation and balance sheet strength ahead of near-term shareholder returns.

Campbell's slashes dividend 36% as EPS collapses to $2.17 while Smucker raises payout to $1.12

Campbell's slashed its dividend 36% to $0.25 per share after fiscal 2026 adjusted earnings per share collapsed to $2.17, down from $2.91. The cut followed a 37% drop in operating income to $852 million and a 6% decline in organic snacks sales. J.M. Smucker, by contrast, raised its quarterly dividend to $1.12 and guided full-year adjusted EPS to $10.50 to $11.00. First-quarter adjusted EPS hit $3.24, beating estimates, with revenue up 5% to $2.22 billion. However, Smucker faces similar pressures. Sweet Baked Snacks fell 7% and a $961.7 million Hostess impairment wiped out GAAP earnings. Despite this, operating cash flow swung to $425.7 million from negative territory. Analysts rate Smucker with eight strong buys and a $141 target, whilst Campbell's carries four strong sells and a $21 target. Year-to-date, Smucker is up 27% whilst Campbell's is down 27%.
