  • Experience working with children in a camp or outdoor recreational setting is required.
  • Understanding of childhood development and group management in a general camp setting is required.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • CPR, automated external defibrillator, and First Aid certification are required.
  • A tuberculosis test is required.
  • Successful completion of YMCA Camp Erdman's High Ropes Facilitator Training is required.
  • Successful completion of YMCA Lifeguard Training is required.
  • Ability to live on-site at Camp Erdman in assigned housing is required.
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive background screening, including criminal and sex offender checks, is required.
  • Completion of mandatory Praesidium training and reporting of child protection concerns are required.
Responsibilities
  • Lead a variety of safe and fun activities for students, families, and guests at Camp Erdman.
  • Assist periodically with turnover of rental cabins.
  • Work five of seven days throughout the week, including occasional Sunday and Monday weekend assignments, while maintaining assigned days off.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor for students and guests.
  • Develop positive and meaningful relationships with youth.
  • Provide children opportunities to make new friends and learn new activities.
  • Support camper development and growth.
  • Monitor health and safety concerns.
  • Ensure every camper is included in the group.
  • Follow program policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Promote teamwork among staff and children.
  • Be on time for work and meetings.
Desired Qualifications
  • College experience is preferred.
  • YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is preferred.
  • Ropes facilitation experience is preferred.
