Requirements
  • Graduation from a Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current or willingness to obtain licensure as a Nurse Practitioner with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.
  • Family All Ages (FAA) certification is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of home and community health services.
  • Exceptional clinical assessment and decision-making abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Very strong computer and technology skills to deliver virtual care through technology.
  • A satisfactory background screening result.
  • Own a computer system with two monitors, USB headset, webcam, and high-speed internet connection to connect through VPN.
Responsibilities
  • Assess client presentation, evaluate urgency of care needed, select the appropriate level of care, facilitate referrals where appropriate, and determine required follow-up.
  • Independently and collaboratively assess, diagnose, and prescribe in accordance with professional standards, legislation, policies, and clinical practice guidelines.
  • Coordinate treatment plans and follow-up based on assessments, client and family response, and outcomes, collaborating with other healthcare professionals when needed.
  • Communicate findings and diagnoses to clients and the inter-professional team, discuss prognosis and treatment options, and document care in the client’s permanent health record.
  • Advocate for clients by assessing their needs and referring them to appropriate care providers, professionals, or other services.
  • Provide appropriate assessment and care to patients in a virtual clinic environment.
  • Prescribe medications, perform or order diagnostic tests and treatments, evaluate treatments, and provide follow-up care.
  • Provide comprehensive and holistic nursing care, including health promotion and injury and illness treatment and prevention.
  • Practice independently within provincial regulations and collaborate with healthcare professionals, including primary care physicians, for issues outside the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice.
  • Follow best-practice guidelines.

  • One year of recent experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner; previous clinical experience will be considered.
  • Experience working in emergency or urgent care.
  • Experience practicing in a rural setting.
  • Experience and aptitude with e-consult.
  • A commitment to professional development.
