Requirements
  • Current New York State nursing license.
  • Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) is required within one year.
  • Five or more years of experience in health care services.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity and competency related to the populations served.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Responsibilities
  • Implement and continuously monitor infection prevention practices across the organization, the Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention Clinic, and the triage registered nurses supporting clinical units.
  • Support maintenance of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)-waived point-of-care testing and clinical application of the electronic medical record.
  • Supervise triage nursing staff, including scheduling, performance management, and addressing staff needs.
  • Provide clinical oversight to the triage team.
  • Provide administrative support to the Director of Nursing as assigned.
  • Develop and support employees at all levels in a supportive atmosphere.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing to plan scheduled meetings and conferences.
  • Take appropriate and timely action to resolve identified operational and clinical issues.
  • Manage the Health Center’s infection prevention activities.
  • Collect, analyze, and report infection control surveillance data.
  • Coordinate and complete competencies for all point-of-care testing.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Pharmacist on medication management processes related to infection prevention practices.
  • Serve as the Infection Prevention Nurse and facilitate scheduled infection prevention meetings.
  • Provide initial and ongoing education and training to employees on infection prevention strategies and patient-centered care.
  • Collaborate with nursing and medical leadership to implement infection prevention protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Department to interpret regulatory standards and implement organizational goals.
  • Work with the Director of Nursing and Director of Risk and Compliance to oversee corporate compliance in clinical areas.
  • Promote compliance with state and federal regulations regarding hazardous waste safety.
  • Advocate for current evidence-based infection prevention guidelines, including ACIP, CDC, New York State Department of Health, and Joint Commission guidance.
  • Coordinate placement of respiratory etiquette supplies in patient waiting areas.
  • Collaborate with county and state partners to reduce the prevalence and incidence of sexually transmitted infections through early detection and treatment.
  • Monitor employee fit testing with nursing supervisors.
  • Conduct New York State Department of Health public health audits.
  • Coordinate health assessment appointments, follow up on missing documentation, and assist with annual health assessment processes, including respiratory fit testing.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to monitor and track individuals in the clearance process.
  • Prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and oversee multiple responsibilities.
  • Communicate HIPAA compliance, corporate compliance, and client confidentiality requirements effectively.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant internal and external regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to the National Patient Safety Goals defined by Whitney Young Health.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
