Join Ntrepid as a summer intern and be part of a mission-driven team using cutting-edge research and AI-driven tools to address real-world challenges in national security, cybersecurity, and social media research efforts.

This is a hands-on opportunity to apply your liberal arts foundation and technical skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Interns will contribute directly to research projects that explore how AI, including large language models (LLMs) are reshaping global information spaces, cybersecurity, and social media engagement. Exceptional performance during the internship may lead to future full-time opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent, in-depth research and technical analysis on global cyber trends, social media activity, and emerging technologies, build compelling case studies leveraging AI and LLMs in online environments.
• Apply your computer science knowledge to support innovative R&D projects and data-driven analysis.

• Analyze online discourse and behavior across social media platforms using custom tools and AI models.
• Create polished, insightful written products and briefings for internal teams and clients.
• Collaborate with a small, focused team on research design, content development, and analytic outputs.
• Contribute to business development through market research and capability presentations.
• Stay up-to-date with global events, digital trends, and security challenges, with a focus on how AI and large language models (LLMs) shape social media and online engagement.

Qualifications

• Graduate or senior undergraduate students with a background in computer science, international relations, political science, or a related field – such as cybersecurity, data science, media studies, or public policy—especially as it relates to national security, social media, and emerging technologies like AI and LLMs.
• Extremely strong research, writing, and critical thinking skills (a writing sample is required).
• Demonstrated interest in global affairs, digital media, and technology’s role in shaping the modern world.
• Prior internship or work experience demonstrating reliability, initiative, and the ability to manage tasks independently, quickly learn new topics, and contribute in team settings.
• Familiarity with current events, social media platforms, and mobile or web-based technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency in a foreign language (written and spoken), especially Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Farsi, Korean, Dari, and Pashto.

• Experience or coursework related to AI, machine learning, or data analysis is a strong plus.
