About the job

Requirements
  • At least 8 years of software engineering experience, preferably with a strong back-end focus.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Node.js, TypeScript, SQL (ideally PostgreSQL), API design, and cloud-hosted distributed systems.
  • Understanding of operating a multi-tenant SaaS platform in production, including tenancy model trade-offs, horizontal scaling, failure modes, caching, queuing, and asynchronous processing.
  • Experience defining, measuring, and improving latency, throughput, availability, and security posture, and using logging, metrics, and tracing to make them visible.
  • Identity and access management experience, including SSO, OIDC, SAML, OAuth, authentication and authorisation, RBAC, tenant isolation, and tools such as Keycloak.
  • Ability to make and clearly explain architectural decisions, unblock engineers, and contribute hands-on when needed.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a squad of developers while remaining hands-on with code.
  • Incorporate non-functional requirements into design from the start, including performance budgets, availability, security, auditability, operability, and cost.
  • Design and build scalable, maintainable, and secure back-end services and APIs in a multi-tenant environment.
  • Own technical direction for platform foundations and help define engineering standards across the organisation.
  • Work with Product, Delivery, and other squad leads to turn requirements into technical solutions, particularly for cross-team work.
  • Provide realistic estimates and challenge overly optimistic estimates.
  • Unblock difficult or stalled work and restore delivery progress.
  • Improve testing, including TDD, automated testing, and load and performance testing.
  • Ensure team-built systems are observable and supportable in production, and help run incident response and learning activities.
  • Use AI throughout the software development lifecycle, including design, build, testing, and review.
  • Shape how AI coding agents are used in engineering workflows, including guardrails, review standards, and governance for platform-critical code.
  • Own identity and access management foundations, including authentication, SSO, roles, and permissions built on Keycloak.
  • Own tenant isolation and multi-tenant data architecture.
  • Own platform services and integrations used by other squads.
  • Improve performance, scalability, resilience, security, and observability across the platform.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with AWS services such as ECS/EKS and Aurora, Terraform, GraphQL, event-driven or workflow-orchestration patterns, observability tooling, React, .NET Core, or C#.
  • Experience building or hardening authentication and authorisation for a SaaS product with enterprise customers.
  • Experience experimenting with AI IDEs, coding agents, or AI-assisted development, and informed views on responsible use for critical code.

About the company

The ECA International Group

View

The ECA International Group provides a SaaS platform that helps multinational employers manage compliance and duty of care for business travellers and remote workers. The software checks if travel arrangements and work assignments comply with tax, immigration, social security, posted worker rules, permanent establishment and other global laws. It plugs into travelers' booking tools, HR information systems, and tax/immigration vendors, so all systems stay in sync. Unlike tools that cover only a single country or regulation, ECA covers many countries and multiple areas in one workflow and focuses on integration across the company tech stack. Its goal is to reduce compliance risk, protect workers, and enable safe international mobility by keeping regulations up to date and automatically guiding decisions.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • February 2026 JOSCAR renewal and SOC 2 Type 2 strengthen enterprise trust.
  • January 2026 ITX and VisaDoc partnerships widen cross-sell into GEC and visa workflows.
  • December 2025 BCD Marketplace integration drives bookings-led adoption across travel programs.

What critics are saying

  • Pelican integration from 2023 still risks product drift and missed roadmaps through 2026.
  • BCD and VisaDoc partnerships compress pricing as compliance becomes embedded, bundled infrastructure.
  • If BCD or HRIS vendors internalize compliance workflows, ECA loses distribution and relevance.

What makes The ECA International Group unique

  • ECA’s 195-plus-country rules engine spans tax, immigration, Social Security, and posted-worker checks.
  • BCD Travel Marketplace integration makes Comply a booking-layer compliance tool, not a standalone dashboard.
  • Pelican-backed group combines ECA, TST, and GEP into one global-mobility stack.
