About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of software engineering experience, including hands-on individual-contributor experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing engineering teams; this is not a first-time management role.
  • Experience managing software engineers with accountability for team outcomes rather than delivery dates alone, and the ability to identify what the team changed for customers or the business.
  • Experience leading an AI-native product engineering team, including explaining what broke and what could be done differently.
  • Strong product and business instincts, including a point of view on what to build, what to cut, and the smallest test that would determine whether an approach is right.
  • A track record of delivering hard feedback, resetting expectations when someone is falling short, and investing in high-performing employees.
  • Technical credibility on a modern web or mobile product stack, with the ability to engage engineers on architecture and tradeoffs.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity.
  • Experience using data, experimentation, and measurement as the basis for product decisions.
  • Experience hiring engineers while maintaining a hiring bar.

Responsibilities

  • Own the outcomes of a customer-facing team of senior engineers building across the React Native mobile app and Next.js web experiences.
  • Shape the roadmap alongside Product and Design, bringing a point of view on what is worth building, what data can support, and what AI can build and extend.
  • Lead the team to build compounding systems rather than one-off features, so future work becomes cheaper and better based on prior work.
  • Lead an AI-native team and own how it plans, defines, builds, reviews, and tests as AI reshapes each step.
  • Make high-quality tradeoffs between polish and speed to learn, get customer feedback to the team quickly, and maintain accuracy and reliability appropriate for financial advice customers will act on.
  • Ensure peer teams, partners, and leadership understand the team's strategy, roadmap, rationale, and progress.
  • Make the case for changes to how the team works, carry those changes forward, and sustain them until they become the team's operating practice.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in consumer fintech.
  • Experience with React Native, Next.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, and Apollo, or a comparable cross-platform mobile and web stack.
  • Experience with personalization, recommendation, and systems built on customer data.
  • Experience partnering with compliance and security on tradeoffs across speed, reliability, and risk.
  • Experience defining an operating model rather than inheriting one.
  • Experience coaching other managers, formally or informally.
