Requirements
  • A current Registered/Professional Nurse license and registration in the State of New Jersey is required.
  • Completion of an educational program designed and conducted to prepare graduates to practice as a Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse, with a master's degree in nursing and eligibility for certification by a national certifying body.
  • Evidence of effective interpersonal and communication skills and creative problem-solving ability is required.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience and current Basic Life Support certification are required.
  • The individual must be able to practice in an expanded nursing role by providing specialty care to General Surgery patients in collaboration with the attending staff.
  • Current New Jersey Registered Nurse license, Advanced Practice Nurse certification, Master of Science in Nursing, and Basic Life Support certification are required.
Responsibilities
  • Collect comprehensive patient health data and medical, surgical, family, and social history; collect, interpret, and document diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to the patient's status in the electronic medical record.
  • Complete medication reconciliation by documenting the patient's current medications, including over-the-counter medications and nutritional supplements, at each visit.
  • Perform and document comprehensive physical assessments, including review of systems and evaluation of manifestations and toxicities related to medical conditions and anticoagulation management.
  • In collaboration with the physician, analyze assessment data and diagnostic tests, determine diagnoses, and develop comprehensive plans of care with treatment interventions.
  • Evaluate patient progress toward expected treatment outcomes and monitor for signs and symptoms related to disease progression or recurrence.
  • Manage medical and anticoagulation-management emergencies according to protocol and policy.
  • Obtain appropriate consents for surgery and procedures and ensure completion of required pre-operative tests, forms, and documents.
  • Document assessments, prescribing, care plans, plan modifications, and evaluations of care in the electronic medical record.
