About the Job

Requirements

  • A degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in welding technologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering prints and computer-aided design (CAD) files, with experience validating tooling, fixturing, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) requirements.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability, Poka-Yoke, and reducing risk through design, with the ability to recommend improvements to process robustness.
  • Background in automated systems including tooling, fixturing, sealing, and welding, and experience supporting troubleshooting and engineering activities during new product introduction.
  • Demonstrated success developing and improving tooling and welding processes, with a track record of improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness and reducing yield loss.
  • Understanding of Bill of Materials, Manufacturing Execution Systems, Specification Management, and Change Point Management.
  • Problem-solving proficiency in DMAIC, 5 Whys, Ishikawa, and 8D, and ability to apply Statistical Process Control.
  • Written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, production, and maintenance teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop expertise in fixturing and welding manufacturing processes through data analysis and product understanding, and optimize line layouts, material flow, waste reduction, and ergonomics using Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Lead root cause analysis of complex system failures, identify and mitigate failure modes, and prevent recurrence across production.
  • Analyze and optimize production processes for safety and Overall Equipment Effectiveness, and drive continuous improvement to improve quality and operational performance.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects for safety, quality, output, and cost; establish and monitor Statistical Process Control for key process parameters; analyze data; and implement Engineering Change Orders.
  • Own non-conforming material activities, including documentation, troubleshooting, and failure analysis; develop and validate rework procedures; and create troubleshooting guides for offline failure resolution.
  • Diagnose part manufacturing process issues and drive corrective actions to their source using structured problem-solving techniques to identify root causes and eliminate systemic risks.
  • Support manufacturing and engineering activities, including 5S, material handling improvements, production line configuration, and safety compliance.
  • Monitor and reduce process variation using Statistical Process Control and Measurement Systems Analysis; audit manufacturing processes for compliance with product specifications and standards; and contribute to Failure Mode and Effects Analyses and Control Plans.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing instructions, routings, and process documentation; train sustaining technicians and production operators; and manage daily activities of process sustaining teams to ensure line coverage and consistency.
  • Support 24/7 production operations, respond quickly to issues, and ensure rapid recovery with minimal disruption.

Desired Qualifications

  • Automotive manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, or Body in White experience.

About the Company

Tesla

Makes electric cars, robotaxis and grid batteries

Tesla makes electric cars and batteries that store power for homes and utilities, and it develops self-driving software and humanoid robots. In 2023, its Model Y became the first electric vehicle to rank as the world's best-selling car. Buyers order the Model 3 sedan, Model Y SUV, or Cybertruck pickup directly from Tesla instead of through dealers, and they charge on its Supercharger fast-charging network. It also sells Megapack and Powerwall batteries, runs a robotaxi service, and charges drivers a monthly fee for self-driving software that still needs their supervision. Tesla was founded in 2003, with Elon Musk as its lead early investor and a recognized co-founder, and it is based in Austin, Texas.
