About the job
- A Bachelor of Science degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience are required.

- Expertise in simulation, data collection, data analysis, and statistical analysis tools, including ANSYS Multiphysics, MATLAB, JMP, and Python, is preferred.
- Executive-level written and verbal communication skills and solid teamwork and leadership skills are preferred.
- Define inertial sensor roadmaps, infrastructure, core technologies, specifications, and qualification requirements.
- Review and approve verification results.
- Identify, create, and document new sensing system metrics that deliver performance pertinent to user experience.
- Scope new sensing technologies and proof-of-concept investigations.
- Interact with suppliers and drive sensor designs to enable new and improved user experiences.
- Diagnose engineering issues using the scientific method and drive them to a definitive root cause.
- Prepare and deliver presentations communicating technical status, risks, and mitigation strategies for sensor projects.
- A Ph.D. and 10 years of hands-on experience with a proven track record in inertial sensing hardware development.
- Prior experience with sensor modeling and experimental validation.

The devices start at $1,199 and $1,299 respectively, featuring a reimagined camera with DSLR-like aperture for improved low-light performance. The launch coincides with the release of Apple's foldable iPhone Duo, priced up to $3,000. The new phones can detect AI-generated photos by creating unalterable Reference Images alongside edited versions. New CEO John Ternus, who recently succeeded Tim Cook, visited Apple's Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York, greeting customers and signing autographs. The phones debut the upgraded Siri AI, powered by Google Gemini models, which can access information across messages, photos and emails, and draft communications.
Apple reported $109.42 billion in fiscal Q3 revenue, marking its ninth consecutive earnings-per-share beat. CEO Tim Cook said iPhone growth has been running at 22% recently. Shares are up 23.19% year-to-date but trade below levels some analysts believe a full Siri AI cycle could justify. The stock currently sits at $334.31, with Wall Street's consensus target at $325.66. One analyst projects a base case of $378.88 and a bull case of $431.31, suggesting potential upside. However, Cook warned of significant memory price increases and supply constraints expected in the September quarter across iPhone, Mac, and iPad products. Gross margin in Q3 received a roughly 2-percentage-point boost from one-time tariff refunds. The company faces ongoing margin pressure concerns heading into 2027.
Apple unveiled its iPhone Duo foldable smartphone and iPhone 18 Pro models, marking a significant redesign. However, the company has substantially increased prices in India, potentially alienating customers in this key growth market. Apple's India revenue exceeded $10 billion in fiscal year 2026, up from $9 billion the previous year. This growth came despite a 7.9% decline in overall Indian smartphone shipments. The price increases in India are considerably steeper than in the US. The iPhone 18 Pro base model costs INR 164,900 ($1,725), 44% more than its US price. The iPhone 17 saw a 21% price increase to $1,045, whilst the cheapest model, iPhone 17e, now costs $836. These hikes stem from import duties and component taxes. With the Indian smartphone market showing signs of weakness, the steep price increases could challenge Apple's growth trajectory in the region.
The US Federal Reserve raised interest rates by 25 basis points yesterday, bringing the federal funds target range to 3.75%–4.00%. This monetary tightening could pressure economic growth and compress valuations in the technology sector. However, companies with strong balance sheets, robust cash flow, and minimal dependence on external financing are better positioned to weather higher rates. Five tech stocks stand out in this regard: Nvidia, Fortinet, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Apple. Nvidia generated $24.1 billion in operating cash flow in Q2 and held roughly $56.6 billion in cash and marketable debt securities. Fortinet produced $966 million in free cash flow on $2.05 billion of Q2 revenue. Alphabet ended Q2 with approximately $242.5 billion in cash and equivalents.
OpenAI has denied Apple's allegations of trade secret theft in a US District Court filing, calling the dispute "a mess of Apple's own making". Apple sued OpenAI and two former employees in July, accusing them of misappropriating trade secrets related to hardware design and manufacturing. OpenAI argued that California law permits employees to move freely between employers. Court filings reveal OpenAI has hired roughly 400 former Apple employees for its hardware initiative. The lawsuit marks an escalation between the companies, who partnered two years ago to integrate ChatGPT into Siri. That relationship has since deteriorated as Apple shifted towards using Google's Gemini to power its redesigned Siri instead of deepening ties with OpenAI.
