Legacy Community Health runs a network of health care facilities across the Texas Gulf Coast, offering primary care, pediatrics, OB/GYN, behavioral health, dental, vision, specialty care, and pharmacy services at more than 50 locations. Clinics provide a full range of medical services in one system, focusing on accessible, comprehensive care for all patients, with care coordination across different specialties and preventive services. As the largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Texas and a United Way affiliated agency since 1990, it delivers care regardless of a patient’s ability to pay, without judgment. This combination of scale, integrated services, and a commitment to open access differentiates Legacy from many providers who charge or limit services based on insurance. The company’s goal is to improve community health by delivering high-quality, affordable, and coordinated care to underserved populations, expanding access and reducing barriers to care.

A new dental home opens in Pasadena. Getting your child to the dentist in Pasadena just got a lot easier. Legacy Community Health has opened a new pediatric dental clinic at its Pasadena Southmore location, filling a gap in care for families in the area. The clinic sits in a brand-new building at 1951 Southmore Ave. It has four treatment rooms and will be staffed by a full-time dentist along with two to three dental assistants. Dental services start two days a week and will expand over time. Appointments are available now. Why Pasadena? Dr. Amar Trivedi, Legacy's Medical Director of Dental Services, said the decision came down to need. "We didn't really have much pediatric coverage for East Houston, so it made sense," he said. With fewer pediatric dental options nearby, many families in the area had to travel across town for basic care like cleanings and fillings. Pasadena Southmore is also home to adult medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN, behavioral health, and pharmacy services, so dental care fit naturally into the all-in-one care that Legacy builds across its clinics. With Pasadena open, four of Legacy's five dental clinics will be pediatric, which reflects where the community need has been greatest. How does oral health affect the rest of the body? Most people think of dental visits as being just about teeth. The truth is that your mouth can tell your doctor a lot about what is happening everywhere else. "A lot of disease states start in the mouth," Dr. Trivedi explained. "That same bacteria can cause other problems. Gum disease and diabetes are linked. A dental cavity can turn into an abscess, and that bacteria can enter your bloodstream." That connection is why Legacy treats dental care as part of whole-person health rather than something separate. It fits into the Health Beyond Care idea that guides how Legacy serves its communities. Dental, medical, and pharmacy teams work together so patients get the full picture of what their health needs. What happens at a baby's first dental visit? For babies and toddlers, dentistry looks very different than it does for adults. A first dental visit happens as early as six months old, and the appointment is mostly about teaching parents what to do at home. "We do check the gums, and sometimes babies have teeth," said Dr. Trivedi. "We teach them about basic hygiene, what, when, and how long to brush." Because many Legacy clinics house medical and dental under the same roof, families can often take care of both appointments in a single trip. "A one-stop shop, essentially, if the patient wants it," is how Dr. Trivedi describes it. When should kids start seeing the dentist? Six months is the recommended age for a first visit, though many parents wait a bit longer. By age two, every child should have had their first appointment. After that, cleanings and exams twice a year are standard. Some kids also benefit from sealants, a thin protective coating painted onto permanent molars to help prevent cavities, usually around ages six to nine. The most important habit at home is also the easiest, according to Dr. Trivedi. "Brush twice a day. Keep it simple." What services does Legacy offer? Legacy's pediatric dental clinics handle most everyday needs for children 17 and under. Services available at each location cover the full range of pediatric dentistry. * Preventive cleanings and exams * X-rays * Fillings and extractions * Sealants to help prevent cavities * Nitrous oxide sedation to help kids who get nervous * Virtual visits when you need quick guidance from a dentist Adult dental care is available at the Montrose clinic. Legacy also offers sliding scale pricing based on income, and dental fees vary by procedure. Families worried about cost should talk with the eligibility team about options when they call to book. Where are Legacy's dental clinics? Legacy now has pediatric dental care at four Houston-area locations plus adult care at Montrose. * Pasadena Southmore, 1951 Southmore Ave. (pediatric) * Fifth Ward Lyons, 3811 Lyons Ave. (pediatric) * BakerRipley, 6500 Rookin St. (pediatric) * Galena Park, 13940 Bonham St. (school-based) * Montrose, 1415 California St. (adults) To book an appointment at any Legacy dental clinic, call the dental line at 832-548-5240 or visit the dental services page at legacycommunityhealth.org.

Legacy Community Health earns AMA Joy in Medicine(R) recognition for commitment to physician well-being. Media Alert Texas Federally Qualified Health Center receives national recognition for efforts to reduce burnout and support the professional fulfillment of physicians and care teams HOUSTON, TX (October 7, 2026) - Legacy Community Health has earned Bronze-level recognition from the American Medical Association (AMA) as a 2026 Joy in Medicine(R) organization. The recognition honors health systems, hospitals and medical groups that prioritize proven methods to reduce burnout and enhance the professional fulfillment physicians experience through patient care. Organizations that meet the rigorous criteria of the AMA Joy in Medicine(R) Health System Recognition Program are leaders in the national effort to transform health care work systems and address the root causes of burnout among care teams. Legacy Community Health is the first federally qualified health center in Texas to receive AMA Joy in Medicine(R) recognition and is among only a few federally qualified health centers nationwide to earn the distinction. Legacy joins 92 health organizations recognized in 2026 for documented efforts to reduce system-level drivers of work-related burnout and demonstrated competencies in commitment, assessment, leadership, efficiency of practice environment, teamwork and support. Legacy's physician well-being efforts include the StarLIGHT peer-support program and the Well-Being Index. Together, these initiatives support the organization's work to assess well-being, provide meaningful support to physicians and care teams, and address factors that contribute to burnout. "Being the first FQHC in Texas to receive this recognition, and among only a few others nationwide, is incredibly meaningful. But more importantly, it reflects what we can accomplish across our organization when we work together," said Dr. Tamisha Jones, Chief Medical Officer of Legacy Community Health. "We are transforming health care by looking beyond traditional methods for addressing burnout among our care teams. This recognition is a powerful affirmation that the work we are doing through initiatives like the StarLIGHT peer-support program and the Well-Being Index is creating a meaningful impact." Burnout rates continue to decline, yet U.S. physicians remain at higher risk for burnout relative to other U.S. workers. Systemic drivers such as administrative burden, staffing shortages and stigma surrounding mental health continue to affect the physician experience and contribute to the daily stressors physicians face. Continued efforts are essential to ensure physicians receive the support they need to thrive and help advance national health goals. "Supporting physician well-being helps create better care for everyone," said AMA President Willie Underwood III, MD, MSc, MPH. "Studies show that when physicians are supported, patients benefit from safer care, higher quality, and a better overall experience. Organizations recognized by the Joy in Medicine Program are leading the way by investing in workplaces that support physicians and help them deliver compassionate, high-quality care. The AMA is proud to honor these leaders for their commitment to physician well-being and healthier communities." Legacy's focus on physician well-being reflects the organization's broader commitment to creating healthy communities. In addition to supporting patients, Legacy invests in programs and resources that help physicians and care teams thrive, recognizing that a strong workforce is essential to delivering high-quality care. Since its inception in 2019, the AMA Joy in Medicine(R) Health System Recognition Program has recognized more than 250 organizations nationwide. This year, Legacy joins only 92 organizations earning 2026-2027 recognition and becomes part of a current cohort of 194 recognized organizations. Legacy's Bronze-level recognition is valid through the end of 2027, and the organization will be recognized alongside other members of the 2026-2027 cohort at a Joy in Medicine event held in conjunction with the American Conference on Physician Health in October 2027. How Legacy is turning fresh food into better health with FoodRX. At Legacy Community Health, Legacy Community Health has always believed that real health goes far beyond what happens inside the exam room. Comprehensive care means seeing the full picture of a person's life, because factors like what you eat, where you live, and what resources you can access all shape your health just as much as any diagnosis or prescription. Food, in particular, is a big part of that picture, so much so that researchers and health advocates have come to call it "Food is Medicine." That idea is at the core of its Health Beyond Care philosophy, and it's also why Legacy started FoodRX - a free produce program for eligible Legacy patients. The real reason fresh food matters for your health. It might sound like a trend, but food as medicine is a serious, evidence-backed approach to healthcare. The logic is simple. What you eat has a direct impact on your health. Diet-related chronic conditions like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension are among the most common and preventable illnesses in its communities. And a big part of managing or preventing them comes down to consistent access to fresh, nutritious food. According to the American Heart Association's Health Care by Food initiative, Food is Medicine programs connect food access directly to healthcare, helping people treat, manage, and prevent diet-related conditions with the support of their medical team. They are gaining ground nationwide and for good reason. The research keeps showing they work. Food insecurity is a real challenge here in Houston. The Houston Food Bank reported a county food insecurity rate of 15.4%, with communities of color feeling it the most. FoodRX exists to help close that gap. How does FoodRX work? FoodRX, a produce prescription program, was developed in partnership with the Houston Food Bank. It is part of its broader commitment to addressing the Social Determinants of Health - or the non-medical factors like food access, housing, and transportation that shape a person's overall well-being. Eligible patients can receive up to 30 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables, plus four healthy grocery items, twice a month, all at no cost. The process is simple. * During your visit, your Legacy care team screens you for food insecurity using a brief set of questions. * If you meet the eligibility requirements, your provider refers you to the Health Connect team, who will enroll you in the program. * From there, you receive fresh produce and groceries to help support your health goals at home. Think of FoodRX as one more tool in your care plan, working right alongside your medical treatment. Who qualifies, and where can you go? FoodRX is available to Legacy Community Health patients who screen positive for food insecurity and meet at least one of the eligibility requirements. If you're not sure whether you qualify, discuss with your provider at your next appointment, and your care team will help connect you to the right resources. The program is currently available at these Legacy locations: Legacy Fifth Ward, Legacy Santa Clara, Legacy Southwest, Legacy Northline, Legacy Northside Irvington, and Legacy Gulfton Dashwood. Legacy's Health Connect programs can also help patients navigate community-based resources such as food, housing support, transportation assistance, and more, all as part of your care at Legacy. Pinkie Fosha, A leader behind FoodRX. As Manager of Programs for Health Connect, Pinkie Fosha is one of the leaders driving FoodRX forward and making sure it reaches the people who need it most. She works at the crossroads of healthcare and community, and what she sees every day reminds her why programs like FoodRX matter so much. For Pinkie, food access is a healthcare issue. "What you eat plays a significant factor in your overall health," she stresses. "Nutrient-poor diets contribute to the development of obesity, hypertension, and many other preventable diseases." She also knows the difference this kind of support makes for patients. "Many patients are not even aware this support is available," she says. "To be able to make someone's day a little easier is why we do the work. Many of our patients come to the markets frequently, and to see their smiles and be able to serve them is so rewarding." That mindset is what Health Beyond Care means to her. "It looks at the patient holistically, not just providing a prescription and sending them on their way," she explains. "We meet our patients where they are, addressing any identified needs directly or through collaboration. Knowledge and access are key." Most of all, she wants patients to know the door is open. Whether someone needs help with food, housing, financial assistance, employment, or clothing, she and her team are ready to assist. FoodRX shows up even in a crisis. FoodRX is a program that runs on good days and bad ones. After Hurricane Beryl struck Houston in July 2024, Legacy's Health Connect team mobilized quickly. Distributions at Legacy's Santa Clara location served over 175 households with fresh food, hygiene kits, and essential supplies. Additional distribution efforts continued at the Lyons Clinic Mobile Market, where the team worked alongside the Houston Food Bank to make sure no one was turned away, including those not yet enrolled in FoodRX. That kind of response says a lot about what this program is really about. In addition to fresh food, it is a commitment to showing up for its community when things get hard. Ready to get connected? If you or someone you care about is a Legacy patient and could benefit from FoodRX, please reach out.
