About the job

  • Proven experience driving consumer adoption and engagement of a financial product, including improving activation, retention, or transaction metrics.
  • A track record of launching and scaling consumer-facing digital products (B2C).
  • Strong grasp of acquisition, activation, retention, referral, and revenue, and how to design a product that grows across that funnel.
  • Experience with growth mechanics, including onboarding optimisation, funnel analysis, experimentation, and retention loops.
  • Understanding of the technical aspects of digital product development and ability to work closely with engineers.
  • Ability to create and run a customer discovery process, including interviews, journey mapping, and ideation workshops, to surface user pains and opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of value proposition design and what makes a consumer product succeed.
  • Ability to integrate analytics into a product to generate actionable insight and define the right metrics for a consumer wallet.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels through verbal and written communication, presentation, and storytelling.
  • Strong design sense and ability to collaborate with designers to produce consumer experiences.
  • Knowledge of modern development practices such as agile and scrum.
  • Must be based in Cairo, Egypt.
  • Native Arabic speaker with fluent English.
Responsibilities
  • Own the personal banking and consumer wallet product end-to-end, with adoption and active usage as primary success metrics.
  • Define and execute the strategy to drive wallet activation, funding, and repeat transactions within the super app and in external use cases such as peer-to-peer transfers, bill payments, and merchant payments.
  • Design acquisition and activation funnels with growth and marketing; identify and remove friction that prevents users from funding and using the wallet.
  • Understand Algerian consumer cash habits, trust barriers, and the behavioural shifts needed to move people from cash to digital money.
  • Run customer interviews, journey mapping, prototyping, and experiments to validate what drives adoption at scale.
  • Translate customer insights into a prioritised roadmap of features and experiments, tested with real users in market.
  • Partner with engineering and design to ship consumer experiences for onboarding, know-your-customer processes, top-up, sending and receiving money, and transaction history.
  • Use the super app’s ride-hailing, delivery, and agent network surfaces as distribution channels for wallet adoption.
  • Instrument the product with analytics and use funnel data, cohort retention, and transaction behaviour to make evidence-based decisions.
  • Synthesize business, market, and customer needs into strategic, evidence-based recommendations for leadership.
  • Facilitate agile ceremonies and keep the squad delivering against roadmap and quality goals.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience taking a wallet or consumer fintech product from low to mass adoption in an emerging or cash-heavy market.
  • Understanding of behavioural psychology and how to design for high engagement and stickiness.
  • Knowledge of lean startup techniques and what a good minimum viable product looks like for consumer products.
  • Experience working with super apps, marketplaces, or multi-product ecosystems.
  • Prior experience in a scale-up environment.
  • French language ability is a strong plus.

Yassir acquires Kawarizmi to expand into media and advertising

Yassir, the North African startup offering ride-hailing, food delivery and financial services since 2017, has acquired programmatic advertising agency Kawarizmi as it expands into media and advertising. The deal's terms were not disclosed. The acquisition marks a strategic shift for Yassir, which has built its business around on-demand daily services including Yassir Express for food and grocery delivery, and Yassir Cash for financial services. The move into media and advertising represents the company's latest diversification effort beyond its core app-based offerings.

Yassir acquires Uno stores to boost e-commerce in Algeria and Africa

Algerian startup Yassir has acquired Uno stores from the Cevital Group, rebranding them as "Yassir Market". The company plans to open its flagship store at Bab Ezzouar shopping centre in Algiers within days. The acquisition follows Jumia's exit from the grocery and retail sector in North Africa. Yassir aims to integrate digital expertise with physical retail presence through a network of stores offering a hybrid shopping experience, including groceries, luxury goods, cosmetics and fast food outlets. Transactions will be processed through Yassir Cash, supported by over 5,000 agents, whilst customers can earn points through the "Yassir +" programme. The company is also developing a B2B logistics layer for wholesale deliveries to institutional clients including embassies and major corporations. Founded by Stanford PhD and former Silicon Valley engineer Nour Eddine Taibi, Yassir operates across six countries and 50 cities, serving over 10 million users.

Super Apps: What’S In A Name?

The phrase super apps has gained currency in recent years, generally used to mean a digital one-stop-shop for a range of services. The likes of Uber and DoorDash have expanded their offerings beyond their core services, while Revolut refers to itself as. a ‘financial super app’ in its marketing, and the recent IPO of Kazakh fintech Kaspi.kz at a valuation of $18bn brought the concept further into the mainstream. It is, however, a pretty vague concept, and one I think merits unpacking further. To do so, I sat down with my colleagues Thomas Rubens and Guy
