Requirements
  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing is required, with appropriate experience potentially substituted for education on an equivalent basis.
  • No prior experience is required.
  • A current Wisconsin Registered Nurse license is required.
  • The ability to assess and triage patients is required.
  • The ability to set priorities, identify and resolve problems, and delegate effectively and efficiently is required.
  • Strong leadership, team-building, decision-making, communication, and organizational capabilities are required for managing workflow, patients, patient families, physicians, and others under stressful conditions.
  • Reliability and maintenance of patient confidentiality are required.
  • The ability to occasionally lift moderate-weight materials and to stand or walk continuously is required.
  • The ability to detect and translate speech or other communication is required; occasional ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement nursing plans of care for patients within the scope of the license.
  • Communicate physician-prescribed plans of care, including test results, specialized test scheduling, treatment modalities, prescription drug instructions, and other patient education.
  • Document treatment appropriately in the medical record.
  • Triage patient concerns by telephone and provide nursing advice using the nursing process.
  • Handle calls about appointments, urgent care, inpatient admissions, prescription refills, and test results according to clinic protocols, and coordinate the proper disposition of each call.
  • Obtain, review, verify, and complete healthcare forms related to home healthcare, referrals, medical equipment, and other patient or physician needs.
  • Assist with managed-care authorization and complete insurance and medical forms or help patients complete them.
  • Help maintain patient flow and clinic workflow.
  • Collaborate with physicians and clinic staff to provide professional nursing care, health education, and health assessments.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Assist with clinical trials according to protocol when required.
  • Work in an environmentally controlled setting with occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, water, or other liquids.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a clinic, doctor’s office, or urgent-care setting is preferred.
