Full-timeRemote in USA

About the Job

Requirements

  • Have 5–10 years of industry experience in applied machine learning, with a track record of building and productionizing models at scale.
  • Have 1–2+ years of hands-on experience with large language models and generative AI technologies, including building with agentic frameworks, orchestration, and evaluation.
  • Have strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with Scala, Java, or an equivalent language.
  • Understand machine-learning best practices, including minimizing training/serving skew, A/B testing, feature engineering, and model selection, and algorithms including gradient-boosted trees, neural networks, transformers, and deep learning.
  • Have experience with machine-learning frameworks and tooling such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or equivalent.
  • Have experience with data engineering and building end-to-end machine-learning pipelines, including batch and real-time systems.
  • Have experience designing evaluation methodology for machine-learning or LLM systems, including benchmarks, ground truth, offline/online metrics, and calibration.
  • Be able to scope loosely defined problems, prototype quickly, and drive them to measurable outcomes.
  • Have exposure to architectural patterns of large, high-scale software applications, such as well-designed APIs, high-volume data pipelines, and efficient algorithms.
  • Have experience with test-driven development, incremental delivery, and deployment practices.
  • Have a bachelor's, master's, or PhD in computer science/machine learning or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Frame and prototype machine-learning and agentic solutions for problems without established approaches, in partnership with product managers, data scientists, and front-line defense teams.
  • Design, build, and productionize end-to-end machine-learning pipelines, including feature engineering, model training, evaluation, and deployment, for batch and real-time use cases.
  • Build and improve abuse-behavior detection that generalizes across defenses.
  • Design, launch, and iterate on AI agents that automate trust decisions, including orchestration, tool interfaces, and guardrails that maintain quality as autonomy increases.
  • Build benchmarks, evaluation harnesses, and instrumentation to objectively measure agentic and model decision quality, and use them to improve that quality.
  • Develop specialized models for trust and safety use cases, and use LLMs and AI agents to accelerate model development.
  • Write, review, and ship clean, testable code, including training new models, improving existing pipelines, and optimizing features for scalability and reliability.
  • Work with large-scale structured and unstructured data to continuously improve machine-learning models for Airbnb product, business, and operational use cases.
  • Partner with front-line defense teams to validate solutions through experiments and holdouts, and quantify impact on business and operational metrics.
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and cross-team collaborations to contribute to a high-quality machine-learning engineering culture.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with multimodal models, including vision, document, or speech models.
  • Exposure to the Trust and Risk domain, such as fraud detection, anomaly detection, identity, or account integrity.

About the Company

Airbnb

Connects travelers with stays and local activities

Airbnb runs an online marketplace where travelers book places to stay, local activities and personal services from hosts. Listings range from rooms in shared homes to entire properties and independent hotels, giving guests alternatives to conventional hotel stays. Hosts set prices and availability, while guests search by destination, compare listings and book through the website or mobile app. The platform handles payments and messaging, and earns service fees on reservations rather than renting out properties it owns; hosts receive payouts for the stays, experiences or services they arrange. Airbnb was founded in 2007 and has its headquarters in San Francisco, California.
