Requirements
  • The Advanced Practice Provider must be an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • A Master’s Degree is required.
  • National Board Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is required.
  • Basic Life Support Certification is required.
  • A minimum of one year of Advanced Practice Provider experience in critical care is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform complete histories and physicals and document findings in the medical record.
  • Order and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant diagnostic information, and indicated diagnostic procedures.
  • Serve as a first responder for nursing and house staff during patient status changes, including ordering interventions and participating in resuscitative efforts.
  • Assess risks associated with care of acute and complex chronically ill patients, including medication effects, immobility, nutrition, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, immunocompetence, and invasive procedures.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to diagnose acute and complex chronic conditions.
  • Manage diagnostic testing through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision.
  • Formulate prioritized differential diagnoses.
  • Identify complications and initiate appropriate interventions.
  • Develop, document, and manage individualized plans of care based on expected outcomes.
  • Apply evidence-based guidelines across the continuum of care.
  • Implement and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Prescribe diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions.
  • Perform advanced procedures consistent with privileges and competency validation.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Coordinate with patients, families, and staff to ensure continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Complete timely and compliant documentation, including histories and physicals, daily progress notes, care plans, procedure notes, transfer and discharge summaries, and acute event notes.
  • Ensure documentation reflects patient acuity and meets acute care standards.
  • Demonstrate leadership through mentoring, precepting, and education of learners.
  • Participate in research, evidence-based practice initiatives, and professional development activities.
  • Attend Advanced Practice Grand Rounds and specialty meetings.
  • Maintain continuing education units and active professional organization membership.
