Requirements
  • ARDMS certification and current registration, or ARRT post-primary certification and current registration in breast sonography, or ARRT certification and current registration with MQSA qualification.
  • Five continuing education units specific to breast ultrasound.
  • Certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or ability to obtain it within 90 days of employment.
  • Regular performance of breast ultrasound examinations.
  • Registered technologists must comply with the continuing education requirements of their certifying organization for the imaging modality in which they perform services, including credits pertinent to the technologist’s American College of Radiology-accredited clinical practice.
Responsibilities
  • Collect pertinent medical information and review the physician’s order to identify the reason for examination and potential contraindications.
  • Explain the procedure and position the patient.
  • Select proper technical factors and operate the transducer over the designated area of the body.
  • Observe images and modify equipment parameters as necessary to obtain optimal images.
  • Freeze and print frames when necessary, and review records to ensure the correct anatomy is visualized.
  • Perform limited vascular studies, including venous, arterial Doppler, and carotid Doppler studies.
  • Assemble records for interpretation by the physician.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs on ultrasound equipment and refer major problems to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Assist in orienting and training personnel.
  • Enter patient charges into the computer system.
  • Follow hospital and departmental safety policies and immediately report equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, and employee, patient, or visitor injuries or accidents to the manager.
  • Use skilled judgment and diagnostic criteria to accurately identify and differentiate normal from abnormal findings.
  • Perform arterial evaluations using Doppler ultrasound and/or color duplex ultrasound imaging to determine the presence, location, and extent of arterial sclerosis or stenosis affecting circulation.
  • Perform venous evaluations using Doppler ultrasound and color duplex ultrasound imaging to determine the presence of deep venous obstruction, including thrombus, and venous valvular incompetence.
  • Operate ultrasound scanning equipment to produce records of designated portions of the anatomy of infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Work the stated schedule: Buford on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and Gwinnett and/or Snellville on Tuesday and Thursday.
