About the company

Tesla makes electric cars and batteries that store power for homes and utilities, and it develops self-driving software and humanoid robots. In 2023, its Model Y became the first electric vehicle to rank as the world's best-selling car. Buyers order the Model 3 sedan, Model Y SUV, or Cybertruck pickup directly from Tesla instead of through dealers, and they charge on its Supercharger fast-charging network. It also sells Megapack and Powerwall batteries, runs a robotaxi service, and charges drivers a monthly fee for self-driving software that still needs their supervision. Tesla was founded in 2003, with Elon Musk as its lead early investor and a recognized co-founder, and it is based in Austin, Texas.

What believers are saying

  • Sales are growing again: revenue rose 26% to $28.2 billion in the June 2026 quarter, after falling 3% in 2025.
  • Software adds income beyond cars: paid users of its supervised self-driving feature rose 56% to 1.48 million by June 2026.
  • Hiring is back: Tesla's headcount grew 7% to 134,785 by December 2025, after layoffs shrank it 11% in 2024.

What critics are saying

  • Growth isn't reaching profit: operating profit fell 57% to $398 million in the June 2026 quarter, a 1.4% margin.
  • Alphabet's Waymo is far ahead in robotaxis: Texas records in May 2026 listed 577 Waymo vehicles to Tesla's 42.
  • Stock grants have lost value: Tesla shares fell 17% in 2026 through October 8, after a December 2025 record.

What makes Tesla unique

  • Energy storage punches above its weight: Tesla's energy unit made 13% of 2025 sales but 22% of gross profit.
  • Tesla set the charging standard: Ford, GM and all major EV sellers in North America adopted its plug by 2024.
  • Robots are written into Musk's pay: his 2025 award sets goals of 1 million humanoid robots and 1 million robotaxis.

Tesla shares jump 5.34% to $392.09 as Barclays raises target to $450

Tesla shares rose 5.34% to $392.09 in Monday's regular session after Barclays upgraded the stock and raised its price target to $450 from $370, Barron's reported. That implies about 14.8% upside from the new price. In its third quarter, Tesla reported revenue of about $28.0 billion. Automotive revenue fell 3% to about $20.6 billion, while capital spending reached roughly $4.7 billion. The company's filing puts expected 2026 capital expenditure above $20 billion, covering computing infrastructure, manufacturing and research facilities. The shares trade 11.51% above the $351.62 GF Value estimate. Investors now want proof that vehicle sales, autonomy revenue and manufacturing efficiency can generate enough cash to fund that spending.

Tesla's AI push wins Wall Street support as BNP Paribas lifts target to $420 from $266

Tesla beat Wall Street forecasts in the third quarter, earning $0.48 per share against the Zacks consensus estimate of $0.43. Revenue was $28.05 billion, compared with an average estimate of $27.90 billion. BNP Paribas upgraded the stock to Neutral from Underperform and raised its price target to $420 from $266. Canaccord lifted its target to $442 from $410 and kept its Buy rating, citing Tesla's long-term potential in AI, connectivity, and physical technologies. Bank of America reaffirmed its Buy rating and $460 target, pointing to wider acceptance of self-driving software, robotaxi growth, and the early ramp-up of Optimus. BNP Paribas also said a potential merger with SpaceX has become a significant value consideration. Investors still question execution, as Tesla keeps spending heavily and much of the upside depends on businesses beyond vehicle sales.

Tesla cedes EV crown to chase autonomy, pushing rivals from GM to Volvo to follow

Tesla's push into autonomy is forcing traditional carmakers to rethink their strategies, as electric vehicles with similar ranges and prices proliferate. General Motors last year hired former Tesla executive Sterling Anderson to oversee product development, with a mandate to build fully autonomous personal cars. BMW and Mercedes-Benz have partnered with Qualcomm and Nvidia on "Level 2 plus" driver assistance, which needs a human to monitor the road. Volvo Cars chief executive Håkan Samuelsson said Tesla is "probably leading the development in the West." He said Volvo and Nvidia will deliver door-to-door automated cars soon. Igal Raichelgauz, chief executive of Autobrains, said carmakers want subscription models built on eyes-off technology to create new revenue. Xpeng, Hyundai, and Toyota are expanding into robotics, while GM and Ford pursue energy storage.

YYForce to deploy first humanoid robot at Singapore Novotel as Tesla starts Optimus production

YYForce Inc. (NASDAQ: YFOR) will deploy its first humanoid robot at Novotel Singapore on Stevens in early November 2026. The company, which provides workforce solutions, integrated facility management and robotics services, will use the trial to evaluate humanoid robots in hospitality. The announcement follows Tesla's statement that production of its Optimus humanoid robot has begun in Fremont, California. Tesla described the operation as in an early ramp phase. YYForce congratulated Tesla and chief executive officer Elon Musk, but said the two companies have no partnership and the Novotel robot is not an Optimus. The trial will test on-site workflows, human–robot collaboration, staff training needs and operational performance. Its scope and pace will depend on technical readiness and early results. "We aim to understand where humanoid robots can perform reliably, how they can support employees, and what is required to deliver measurable value to hospitality customers," said YYForce chief executive officer Mike Fu.

Barclays upgrades Tesla to overweight, lifts target to $450 on potential SpaceX merger

Barclays upgraded Tesla to "Overweight" from "Equal Weight" and raised its price target to $450 from $370, which implies a near 19% upside. Analyst Dan Levy cited a potential takeover premium for shareholders in a possible merger with SpaceX. Last week, chief executive officer Elon Musk confirmed that Tesla and SpaceX had formed independent committees to explore a combination. He called it a "good idea" but said an agreement is not a "certainty." Barclays expects Tesla's automotive business to return to growth this year, helped by Full Self-Driving adoption and higher Shanghai exports. It also expects energy storage shipments to grow more than 50% in 2027. Tesla shares are down more than 15% this year but have gained over 7.3% in October.
