About the job

Requirements
  • At least 15 years of experience building large-scale data platforms, including designing systems operating at tens-of-millions-of-users and petabyte-class scale under strict regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with distributed storage and compute, including Spark and lakehouse formats; streaming technologies such as Kafka, Spark Streaming, and Pulsar; orchestration; data governance, lineage, and catalog tooling; and cloud data services such as AWS or GCP.
  • Demonstrated experience designing semantic or knowledge layers, including metrics layers, ontologies, knowledge graphs, master or entity data management, or retrieval infrastructure for machine-learning or large-language-model systems, and connecting them to product or AI outcomes.
  • A record of setting technical direction at company scale, including experience as a Distinguished Engineer, Fellow, Principal Architect, or equivalent, and artifacts such as RFCs, ADRs, or standards that shaped how a large engineering organization builds.
  • Fluency in data privacy and governance requirements, including GDPR- or CCPA-class regulation, and translating them into architecture.
  • Strong understanding of how modern AI systems, including retrieval-augmented generation, agentic workflows, and large-language-model context construction, depend on well-modeled, governed data and useful semantic layers.
  • Experience designing agentic interfaces that can produce and govern a large knowledge base, and hands-on experience with deep-learning approaches to large or sparse data problems.
  • Experience designing and building distributed data and query systems with runtime optimizations.
  • Experience in fintech, tax, accounting, or another highly regulated data-intensive domain.
  • Prior ownership of a company-wide data platform or semantic/metrics layer used by multiple business units.
  • Contributions to open-source data infrastructure, industry standards bodies, or published research or patents in data systems or knowledge representation.
  • Experience building metadata and context infrastructure behind a production generative-AI or agentic platform.
Responsibilities
  • Define and communicate the multi-year technical strategy for Intuit's data platform and semantic infrastructure, aligned with company-wide AI and data ambitions.
  • Architect the next generation of the data substrate, including ingestion and streaming, lakehouse or warehouse design, data quality and observability, cataloging and lineage, and privacy-by-design controls across business units.
  • Design the semantic layer that unifies how Intuit's systems and AI agents understand data, including canonical entity models, metric definitions, ontologies and knowledge graphs, and context or retrieval services for GenOS and other agentic experiences.
  • Resolve cross-cutting technical problems spanning team, organization, or platform boundaries that have lacked senior technical ownership.
  • Set and enforce technical standards, reference architectures, and build-versus-buy decisions for data and semantic infrastructure company-wide, and run architecture reviews for major initiatives.
  • Partner with product, design, data science, AI/ML, privacy/legal, and Tech Ecosystem engineering leadership to translate business and regulatory requirements into durable technical designs.
  • Mentor and raise the technical bar for Staff and Principal engineers across the data organization, and help build the technical career ladder and craft-skill expectations for senior individual contributors.
  • Identify where the data substrate or semantic layer may fail under future scale, new regulation, or new AI workloads, and drive the roadmap to address those risks.
  • Represent data and AI-infrastructure strategy in reviews with senior engineering and product executives, and act as an external technical ambassador at conferences and standards bodies, and through hiring and patents when it advances Intuit's reputation and talent brand.
  • Personally address the hardest, highest-leverage problems, including writing design documents, prototypes, and code where it matters most.

Oracle vs Intuit: why Oracle's 30% cloud growth beats Intuit's cheaper valuation

A Motley Fool analysis picks Oracle over Intuit as the better tech stock to buy in 2026, though it flags risks at both companies. Intuit posted fiscal 2026 revenue of $21 billion, up about 14%, with net income near $4.6 billion and free cash flow of $8.6 billion. It trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 13.1x, against 17.4x for Oracle. The author warns it could be a value trap as cheaper tax tools threaten its individual customer base. Oracle reported revenue of about $67 billion, up 17%, and net income of $17 billion. Free cash flow was negative at nearly $5.4 billion. Its debt-to-equity ratio fell from 3.6x in May to 2.3x in August. The author favours Oracle for its cloud backlog and 30% revenue growth last quarter.

Intuit adds Meta's Muse to QuickBooks as payment firms race for agentic AI edge

Intuit has integrated Meta's Muse AI assistant into QuickBooks, allowing small business customers to manage cash flow, payments, payroll, and tax filing. The move is part of a broader trend among payment companies adopting agentic AI as a competitive differentiator. PayPal and Shopify have also added Muse support recently. These firms are using AI to compete with traditional banks and payment processors. Intuit leverages its data from over 10 million businesses across 307 industries to provide actionable insights through AI models. The company has previously partnered with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Perplexity, making QuickBooks and Mailchimp available within their platforms. According to Kaiko research analyst Thomas Probst, whilst AI agents present opportunities for payment firms, data quality remains a critical challenge requiring accurate, reliable information and proper oversight.

SimpleClosure and Intuit QuickBooks partner to help businesses stay compliant when closing payroll tax accounts.

SimpleClosure and Intuit QuickBooks partner to help businesses stay compliant when closing payroll tax accounts. Published on 10/02/2026 at 08:00 am EDT S&P Capital IQ SimpleClosure announced a partnership with Intuit, the global financial technology platform that makes TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, Mailchimp, Intuit Enterprise Suite, and Intuit Accountant Suite, to help QuickBooks Workforce customers properly close state payroll tax accounts when they stop running payroll. For customers who are shutting down their business entirely, the partnership also provides easy access to SimpleClosure dissolution services, which includes handling the 95+ moving parts of a shutdown. Payroll tax accounts can remain open even after active payroll stops. This discrepancy can leave business owners responsible for ongoing filing requirements, and exposed to notices, fees and penalties not on their radar. SimpleClosure helps to manage the closing of these accounts, whether due to operational changes like workforce restructuring, a transition to a Professional Employer Organization (PEO), or no longer employing workers in a specific state, in addition to business closure. With more than 100 state tax agencies and thousands of local agencies across the U.S., requirements for closing these accounts vary widely by location, and business owners are often left to determine on their own which accounts need to be closed, where to file, and what steps are required. Through this partnership, QuickBooks Workforce customers will have access to SimpleClosure's guided experience and can securely transfer their company and state payroll tax account details from QuickBooks to SimpleClosure, so they don't have to start from scratch. SimpleClosure then collects any necessary additional information from the customer and manages the state-specific closure process, typically in under 10 minutes. SimpleClosure is currently partnered with several payroll providers operating in the U.S. and has closed approximately 14,000 payroll tax accounts for more than 7,000 customers to date. Intuit offers better value than SoFi despite slower growth, analysts say

Intuit and SoFi are both expanding beyond their core businesses into broader fintech platforms, but they differ significantly in business models and risk profiles. Intuit operates established software franchises like QuickBooks and TurboTax with recurring revenue, whilst SoFi runs a bank-led model where lending and net interest income remain crucial. SoFi added a record 1.1 million members in the second quarter, reaching 15.8 million total members. Fee-based revenues hit $472 million, representing 39% of total revenues. Intuit's fiscal 2026 "Big Bets" grew over 30% and reached roughly 30% of total revenues. Mid-market revenues advanced 39%. Analysts expect SoFi's sales to grow 35.52% in 2026, whilst Intuit's fiscal 2027 revenue growth is projected at 9.06%. However, Intuit trades at a forward P/E of 11.18X versus SoFi's 20.92X, making it considerably cheaper despite slower growth.
