About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and an active Certified Public Accountant license are required.
  • Significant, progressive leadership experience in a complex accounting organization and a strong foundation in U.S. generally accepted accounting principles and technical accounting are required.
  • Demonstrated experience materially improving an accounting function through process and/or organizational redesign to increase efficiency, capability, and impact is required.
  • Experience using technology and automation to improve accounting operations is required.
  • The candidate must be able to operate strategically and at a detailed level, setting direction while staying close enough to the work to solve problems.
  • Strong people leadership and executive presence, including the ability to influence senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders, are required.
  • Experience operating in a complex, multi-entity or high-volume operating environment is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a global accounting organization of more than 50 people across financial reporting and technical accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, venue accounting, and international operations.
  • Own the design and effectiveness of the accounting operating model, including structure, process ownership, service delivery, systems, offshore resources, and performance management.
  • Maintain the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of financial statements and ensure compliance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles, company policy, statutory requirements, and internal controls.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close and consolidation processes, improving their predictability and quality.
  • Lead financial reporting to executive leadership, the Board, investors, and lenders, and advise the Chief Financial Officer on accounting, reporting, and strategic matters.
  • Establish metrics for close performance, automation, working capital, and service levels, and hold the organization accountable for improvement.
  • Own the accounting roadmap for SAP, OneStream, Coupa, and related platforms, partnering with Technology to improve configuration, integration, and automation and eliminate unnecessary manual workarounds.
  • Modernize end-to-end record-to-report, procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, payroll, and international accounting processes to reduce manual work and increase standardized, automated workflows.
  • Use automation and artificial intelligence to eliminate low-value work, strengthen controls, and increase capacity for analysis and problem-solving.
  • Ensure accounting data and reporting provide a consistent, decision-useful view of revenue, labor, operating expenses, working capital, and cash flow in partnership with Financial Planning and Analysis, and translate complex accounting matters into clear business implications.
  • Provide executive oversight of technical accounting matters including revenue recognition, leases, business combinations, impairments, restructuring, and debt, and engage early on initiatives, contracts, and transactions.
  • Own the accounting organization’s control environment, including exception-based review that surfaces risk, partner with Internal Controls, and lead the annual audit process and external auditor relationship.
  • Support acquisitions, financing transactions, international expansion, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee accounts payable and procure-to-pay activities, including vendor processing, payment controls, shared-service performance, and offshore delivery.
  • Lead accounts receivable, billing, collections, and cash application, improving working capital and reducing aged or unresolved balances.
  • Provide executive oversight of payroll to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant pay, and partner with Human Resources and Technology to strengthen payroll systems and the employee experience.
  • Lead, develop, and inspire the organization, building a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and constructive challenge.
  • Build the future-state organization around the work the business needs done, determining ownership, centralization, automation, shared services and offshore resources, required capabilities and leadership roles, the evolution of venue accounting, and how organizational time should be allocated as transaction processing declines.
  • Build an engaged, high-performing leadership team whose members operate independently, drive cross-functional change, and serve as credible business partners.
  • Set clear performance expectations and address capability or accountability gaps directly.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience serving as a Vice President of Accounting, Chief Accounting Officer, Corporate Controller, or senior divisional controller is preferred; an outstanding controller from a larger, more sophisticated organization with demonstrated accounting-function modernization experience may also be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a sizable, complex accounting organization across multiple accounting disciplines, locations, and/or service-delivery models is preferred.
  • Experience in a consumer-facing, hospitality, entertainment, or retail business, ideally private-equity-backed or undergoing significant change, is preferred.
  • Big Four experience; experience with SAP, OneStream, and Coupa; and experience leading international accounting operations, including local statutory reporting, are preferred.

About the Company

Topgolf International

Operator of tech-driven golf entertainment venues

Topgolf uses high-tech driving ranges that blend golf with social entertainment. Players hit microchipped balls into targets to score points based on distance and accuracy, playing in bays that are charged by time. Venues combine sport with dining, drinks, and event spaces to create a social experience for families, friends, corporate groups, and golf enthusiasts. Compared with traditional golf or purely entertainment venues, Topgolf differentiates itself by integrating technology, a social atmosphere, and variety of revenue streams (venue time, food and beverage, events, and merchandise) into one experiential offering. The company’s goal is to grow its footprint by delivering scalable, engaging entertainment experiences that mix sport, technology, and hospitality across more locations both in the U.S. and internationally.
