What believers are saying

  • Legion raised $16 million in July 2026 toward a $25 million private placement.
  • The May 2026 pilot targets 67-day psychiatry waits and medication-adherence dropoffs.
  • Patients can get refill decisions in minutes, cutting administrative friction for clinicians.

What critics are saying

  • Utah’s 12-month sandbox ends in 2027; one adverse case can halt expansion.
  • No federal approval exists; CMS, DEA, or state boards can block nationwide rollout.
  • If AI refill errors trigger malpractice claims, Legion’s narrow psychiatry niche becomes existentially exposed.

What makes Legion Health unique

  • Utah approved Legion Health’s March 19, 2026 AI refill pilot for 15 psychiatric drugs.
  • Its workflow combines licensed psychiatrists, identity checks, pharmacy data, and monthly OAIP reporting.
  • Y Combinator and Utah’s sandbox back a full-stack model from intake to renewals.

AI bot refills antidepressants for $20/month, cutting 67-day psychiatry wait times in Utah pilot

Legion Health, a Utah-based telepsychiatry company, has launched a $20-per-month AI tool for mental health prescription renewals, addressing median wait times of 67 days for psychiatry appointments. The service handles refills for stable patients on maintenance medications like SSRIs and Wellbutrin but does not diagnose, prescribe new medications or adjust doses. The AI conducts safety checks for side effects, drug interactions and warning signs before approving refills. Cases flagged as concerning are routed to human clinicians, who can be requested at any time. The rollout requires doctor approval for the first 250 prescriptions, with subsequent review systems in place. Founded in 2021, Legion Health cites provider shortages and high costs as key drivers, noting 40% to 50% of patients don't consistently take psychiatric medications as prescribed.
