Requirements
  • At least 3 years of full-time mechanical manufacturing experience is required.
  • A BS, MS, or PhD in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering is required.

  • The candidate must define engineering tasks to meet project objectives and quickly learn new processes with limited information.
  • Experience with highly cosmetic parts, consumer electronics manufacturing, or consumer plastic and sheet metal products is advantageous.
Responsibilities
  • Drive the development of key mechanical manufacturing processes across Apple's worldwide supply base.
  • Provide end-to-end manufacturing and process solutions for key design features, including process development and capability, equipment selection or design, automation, and strategic research and development.
  • Define best-in-class processes that meet Apple's design and operational requirements.
  • Develop and document processes, including parameters, consumables, and secondary operation requirements, to meet defined specifications.
  • Work with Global Supply Managers to define and establish supply chain requirements using selected equipment and manufacturing suppliers.
  • Provide leadership at manufacturing sites during development and product production ramp, and drive engineering issues to resolution.
  • Use data to drive process decisions, including basic data analysis, design of experiments, and statistical process control.
  • Identify, research, develop, and qualify equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Define part tolerances and specifications by demonstrating process capability to Product Designers and Industrial Designers.
  • Lead process development or provide expertise in CNC machining, surface finishing, glass processing, assembly, or painting.
  • Develop CNC milling and turning processes, scope CNC equipment, develop CNC fixtures, implement touch probing, reduce cycle time, develop advanced cutters and coatings, implement high-speed machining, and support CNC programming and optimization at worldwide contract manufacturers.
  • Own CNC yield improvement actions and process-change decisions based on statistical process control data analysis.
  • Develop surface-finishing processes including blasting, tumbling, polishing, wet sanding, lapping, anodizing, and physical vapor deposition.
  • Develop glass-processing processes including glass scribe and break, grinding, lapping, polishing, chemical strengthening, decoration, and functional coatings using inks and other thin-film deposition techniques.
  • Develop assembly processes incorporating welding, gluing or adhesives, and mechanical-fit processes.
  • Support supplier equipment qualification, including detailed documentation of process parameters.
  • Own assembly yield-improvement actions and process-change decisions based on statistical process control data analysis.
  • Identify automation opportunities and justify automation projects using automation-line-efficiency metrics.
  • Develop paint processes to achieve cosmetic and surface-durability requirements.
  • Scope and specify paint equipment and environmental clean-room requirements, and evaluate and select paints and painting parameters to meet quality and yield requirements.

Morgan Stanley sets $360 Apple target on AI innovation and 690M upgrade opportunity

Morgan Stanley analyst Erik Woodring has maintained an overweight rating on Apple with a $360 price target, citing accelerated innovation at the company's September product event. The analyst highlighted Apple's first foldable iPhone, new A20 chips, and enhanced Siri capabilities as signs of stronger momentum under new CEO John Ternus, who recently replaced Tim Cook. Woodring noted that 57% of Apple's installed base—roughly 690 million devices—runs phones older than the iPhone 15 Pro, whilst 87% cannot handle complex Siri AI workloads. With consumers keeping iPhones for over four years, this creates significant upgrade potential. Bank of America cuts Apple price target to $370 after iPhone Duo foldable launch

Bank of America cut its Apple price target to $370 from $380 whilst maintaining a Buy rating, following the iPhone Duo launch under new CEO John Ternus. Analyst Wamsi Mohan cited lower-than-expected iPhone pricing pressuring gross margins amid elevated component costs. The iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable phone, features a 7.6-inch inner display and 5.4-inch outer display, both supporting Dynamic Island and 120Hz ProMotion. Starting at $1,999, it launches 23 October with pre-orders opening 16 October. Mohan called the foldable the event's standout, noting its potential to reach mainstream audiences through features like dual capture in FaceTime. Citi described it as Apple's biggest new hardware category since the Watch and AirPods.

Apple Watch can record 15 seconds of conversation without both speakers' consent

Apple's new Watch Series 12 features Audio Intelligence capabilities that can record conversations without consent from all parties. The Live Rewind function captures 15 seconds of conversation and converts it to text after the wearer double-presses the Digital Crown. Whilst the watch emits an audible tone to alert nearby people, this doesn't constitute legal consent in 11 US states requiring all-party consent for recordings. The watch processes audio through its S11 chip and nearby iPhone, discarding the original recording after creating text. Siri Recap summarises conversations throughout the day without retaining audio or identifying speakers. The Electronic Frontier Foundation criticised the feature, arguing people lack practical means to consent or decline recording. EFF's Adam Schwartz warned the technology threatens conversational privacy and spontaneity, urging users to reconsider using it out of respect for others.

AT&T CEO dismisses $2K Apple iPhone Duo as 'not new', doubts foldable will break niche status

AT&T CEO John Stankey expressed scepticism about Apple's newly unveiled foldable iPhone Duo, priced at $1,999. Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia and Technology Conference, Stankey said the device is "not new", noting that Android manufacturers like Samsung and Google have sold foldables for years without broad market success. "What we've seen is that it tends to function more as a specific niche type application as opposed to [being] broadly accepted," Stankey said. He acknowledged Apple could prove him wrong but doubted it would change market dynamics significantly. IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo estimates foldables represent only about 2.2% of global smartphone sales in 2026. Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 retails for $1,899.

Apple's foldable iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, but will shoppers actually buy it?

Apple unveiled its first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, priced from $1,999 to $3,199. The device features a 7.6-inch inner display and 5.4-inch outer screen, allowing users to run two apps simultaneously. The Duo costs $800 more than Apple's new iPhone 18 Pro. CEO John Ternus called it "the most transformational change to iPhone since the original". Whilst Samsung, Huawei, Google, and Motorola already sell foldables, these devices remain niche. IDC expects global foldable shipments to reach 22.9 million units in 2026, representing just over 2% of the smartphone market. However, analysts believe Apple's entry could shift the landscape. IDC forecasts Apple will ship over 17 million foldable iPhones by 2027, capturing roughly 40% of the global foldables market. The company's large customer base may drive broader adoption of the expensive new format.
