- High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) and 3+ years of high school coaching experience, or experience coaching community youth sports, or prior participation in organized competitive athletics at the high school level or above.
- CIF-approved coaching education certificate.
- Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) / Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.
- Ability to lift and move team equipment bags, water coolers, and training gear weighing up to 40 pounds; move quickly across gyms, turf, and fields; and sustain high energy during outdoor afternoon practices and evening games.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check via Live Scan fingerprinting and a standard Tuberculosis (TB) screen.
- Design and execute practice plans focused on fundamental skills, strategy, and conditioning.
- Provide clear, constructive feedback to improve individual and team performance.
- Adapt coaching style to diverse learning styles and skill levels.
- Lead the team during games while modeling sportsmanship and positive behavior for players, officials, and fans.
- Supervise and align junior varsity and assistant coaches with overall program goals.
- Partner with the Athletic Director to manage league schedules, equipment, uniforms, and facility preparation.
- Foster a supportive team culture rooted in respect, discipline, and academic achievement.
Making Waves Academy is a tuition-free public charter school for grades 5–12 in Richmond, California, offering college-preparatory, A-G-aligned coursework and holistic student support for historically underserved students.
