Boyd Gaming reports slight earnings decline as destination travel to Las Vegas softens.

Boyd Gaming reports slight earnings decline as destination travel to Las Vegas softens. October 22, 2026 · 8:41pm ET | 5:41pm PT Email, LinkedIn, and more Boyd Gaming generated $990.5 million in revenue in the third quarter of 2026, a slight decline from the third quarter of last year, attributing the results to weakness in destination travel to Las Vegas. "While quarterly results were impacted by increased softness in destination business to Las Vegas, primarily affecting our Orleans property, we are encouraged by the continued strength of our Las Vegas locals portfolio," Keith Smith, president and CEO of Boyd, said Thursday. Smith also noted strength in the performance of the company's Midwest & South segment. Boyd operates 27 casinos in 11 states, its Boyd Interactive division, which includes the Stardust casino gaming and Boyd Sports apps, and manages Sky River Casino in northern California in partnership with the Wilton Rancheria Tribe, as well as developing the Norfolk Casino Resort in Virginia alongside the Pamunkey Indian Tribe. Boyd reported third-quarter revenue of $990.5 million, compared to $1.0 billion in the third quarter of 2025. The company reported net income of $124.9 million, or $1.71 per share, for the third quarter of 2026 compared to $1.4 billion, or $17.81 per share, for the year-ago period. The Las Vegas-based company's net income for the third quarter of 2025 benefited from a $1.4 billion after-tax gain from the sale of their equity interest in FanDuel and was impacted by $65.1 million in non-cash, pretax, long-lived, asset-impairment charges. During the third quarter, results in the Midwest & South segment were impacted by the closure of Sam's Town Tunica in November 2025, the sale of Sam's Town Shreveport in August 2026, and higher property taxes at Kansas Star. Adjusting for these items, Midwest & South revenue increased nearly 3% and Adjusted EBITDAR grew approximately 2.5% during the third quarter. Continued growth in play from core and retail customers and benefits from recent capital investments drove increases in adjusted gaming revenue in the Midwest & South segment. In Las Vegas, Boyd's results reflected increased softness in the market's destination business, primarily at the Orleans, as well as construction disruption at the Suncoast. "Our view is that the softest in destination was a little stronger or intensified in Q3 (versus) Q1 and Q2," Smith told analysts on Boyd's third quarter earnings call on Thursday. "Part of that is driven by the fact that in Las Vegas, as everyone knows, the third quarter, the summer quarter, is our weakest quarter, so these types of pressures get intensified during the quarter." Smith said July was okay for the company, but August was probably weaker than they anticipated, and September was a little bit better than August. He said in the current quarter they'll have hotel rooms back at the Orleans. "We've had more than 300 rooms out of service every day for the last year," Smith said. "Now do we need those rooms on weekday, the reality is no. Do we need those rooms on weekends, the answer is yes. So that will support us." Smith described the Orleans as an important assets in their portfolio. "In its current form, probably 30 years old, and well maintained, it needs to simply be renovated and upgraded for the long term competitiveness of it," Smith said. "It is not as competitive today as it has been in the past and simply needs to be upgraded as part of the process." However, the remainder of the properties in this segment achieved revenue and Adjusted EBITDAR growth of 3%, with gaming-revenue gains of 3.5%, highlighted by increased play from southern Nevada residents. Boyd noted that downtown Las Vegas results were impacted by increased softness in Las Vegas destination business, declines in Hawaiian visitation due to several major storms in Hawaii, and higher airfares during the quarter. The company's online segment posted double-digit Adjusted EBITDAR growth, which was driven by continued strength in the company's Stardust casino app. In terms of M&A activity, Smith said their comments haven't changed given changes in evaluations of stock prices and other factors, which doesn't change the company's appetite, doesn't make Boyd more aggressive, or less aggressive. "We have the same discipline we've had over the years, which is we have a set of filters that it has to work its way through, being the right asset or the right price and the right market," Smith told analysts. "Which means it has to be a stable market from a tax and regulatory standpoint, has to be a high quality assets." Smith added that the company has "as big of an appetite as we've ever had, but we remain disciplined, absent of all the rumors of use looking at lots of things, they'r just that, they're rumors." "But, we've grown a lot through M&A over the years," Smith said. "We tend to do it in chunks. ?We grew a lot in 2011 and 2012, and took a few years off, grew a lot in 2017 and 2018." If the right opportunity presents itself, Smith assured analysts they'll see Boyd execute, but in the meantime, the company remains disciplined.

Virginia casinos earn $97.6M in September revenues.

Virginia casinos earn $97.6M in September revenues. Revenues nearly flat from August * Virginia's five operating casinos generated $97.5M+ in adjusted gaming revenue in September * Caesars Virginia led with about $36.15M in AGR * Virginia collected about $20.66M in taxes September gaming revenues at Virginia's three permanent casinos and its temporary casinos in Petersburg and Norfolk totaled $97.58 million, according to Virginia Lottery data released Friday. Virginia's newest permanent casino, Caesars Virginia in Danville, opened in December 2024 and reported the largest adjusted gaming revenue (wagers minus winnings) for September - about $36.15 million. Of that, nearly $25 million came from its 1,542 slots, and the remaining $11.15 million came from its 88 table games. Rivers Casino Portsmouth, which opened as Virginia's first permanent casino in January 2023, generated about $18.52 million from its 1,428 slots and about $7.37 million from its 90 table games for a total AGR of approximately $25.89 million in September. Last month, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol reported $21.65 million in AGR, with about $17.72 million of that coming from its 1,324 slots and about $3.93 million coming from its 73 table games. The Bristol casino's temporary facility opened in July 2022, making it the first operating casino in Virginia. The permanent Hard Rock Bristol opened in November 2024. The temporary Petersburg casino reported more than $13.05 million in AGR in September, with about $9.5 million coming from 926 slots and about $3.55 million coming from 32 table games. The temporary casino opened Jan. 22. Baltimore-based The Cordish Cos. and Virginia Beach developer Bruce Smith Enterprise broke ground in March 2025 on the $1.4 billion Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia, slated to open in late 2027. The developers held a topping-out ceremony for the hotel in early October. Norfolk's temporary Interim Gaming Hall, which opened Nov. 7, 2025, reported AGR of $839,593 during September. All of that came from its 132 slots, as the temporary casino doesn't have table games. A permanent $750 million Norfolk casino resort being developed by Boyd Gaming and the Pamunkey Indian Tribe is anticipated to open in late 2027. Virginia casino revenue remained virtually unchanged from August to September, increasing by just 0.027%. Virginia law assesses a graduated tax on a casino's adjusted gaming revenue. For the month of September, tax revenue totaled roughly $20.66 million. Under Virginia law, 6% of a casino operator's AGR goes to its host locality until the operator passes $200 million in AGR for the year, at which point the host locality's tax rate rises to 7%. If an operator passes $400 million in AGR in the calendar year, that rises to 8%. For September, Danville received 7% of Caesars Virginia's AGR, amounting to $2.53 million, and Portsmouth received 7% of Rivers Casino's AGR, netting about $1.81 million in taxes. All other localities received 6% of the respective casino's AGR. For the Bristol casino, the locality tax collected on its adjusted gaming revenue - coming to about $1.3 million last month - goes to the Regional Improvement Commission, which the General Assembly established to distribute Bristol casino tax funds throughout Southwest Virginia. Norfolk received $50,375.60 from the temporary casino, while Petersburg received $783,251.03 from its temporary casino. The Interim Gaming Hall will give roughly $8,396 (1% of the monthly total) to the Virginia Indigenous People's Trust Fund, due to its ties to the Pamunkey Indian Tribe. The Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund receives 0.8% of total taxes - $165,330 last month. The Family and Children's Trust Fund, which funds family violence prevention and treatment programs, receives 0.2% of the monthly total, which was $41,332 in September. The remaining $13.98 million in taxes goes to the state's Gaming Proceeds Fund.
