Requirements
  • Be at least 16 years old for part-time employment.
  • Hold a current lifeguard certification from a recognized organization, such as the Red Cross, or obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Hold current cardiopulmonary resuscitation, automated external defibrillator, and First Aid certifications, or obtain them as applicable through the certification process.
  • Hold a current Administering Emergency Oxygen Certification, or obtain it as applicable through the certification process.
  • Have strong swimming abilities.
  • Be observant and able to react calmly, quickly, and with good judgment in an emergency.
  • Maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the deck, and in surrounding areas by continuously observing the pool area, enforcing health and safety rules, and maintaining emergency readiness.
  • Perform duties related to opening or closing the pool when needed.
  • Rescue distressed persons and examine injured persons.
  • Administer first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation when necessary using training, rescue techniques, medical supplies, and equipment.
  • Perform equipment checks, ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed, and promptly report problems.
  • Provide customer service to members, program participants, and guests.
  • Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform poolside chemical testing.
  • Set up and store equipment for recreational swims.
  • Adhere to abuse prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and comply with mandated reporting requirements.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations, including differences in language, culture, race, physical ability, and sexual orientation.
  • Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
