Requirements
  • All applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
  • All specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, with additional subspecialty training in pain medicine such as FRCPC Pain Medicine, United States Board Certification in Pain Medicine, or equivalent.
  • Candidates must have coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association or proof of alternative coverage.
  • Candidates must have strong interpersonal and communications skills with a focus on patient safety and quality.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver the full scope of subspecialty chronic pain management care, including chronic opioid management, non-opioid pharmacologic treatment, and interventional procedures using ultrasound and fluoroscopy.
  • If the successful candidate is an anesthesiologist, deliver anesthesia care in operating rooms and clinics and while on call.
  • Participate in collaborative chronic pain assessment and management with allied health professionals.
  • Participate in patient safety and quality improvement activities and rounds.
  • Contribute to the Department's research activities as negotiated annually with the Department Head or designate.
  • Participate in departmental administration through involvement in departmental meetings and committees.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families and engage them in care planning and decisions.
  • Foster positive, respectful, and collaborative relationships with students, residents, and clinical and administrative colleagues.
  • Participate in on-call schedules as required.
  • Operate within the bylaws, rules, and regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in a complex health sciences centre.
  • Experience or interest in pain research.
  • ASRA or equivalent pain ultrasound certification.
  • A base specialty background in Physiatry, Neurology, or Psychiatry.
  • An interest in pain research.
