Requirements
  • Complete high school or its equivalent.
  • Successfully complete a Nursing Assistant I Program.
  • Have a current Nursing Assistant I listing with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Nurse Aide I Registry.
  • Possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
  • Maintain clinical competencies appropriate to the services provided, age groups served, and scope of practice.
  • Demonstrate clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be able to perform several tasks in an organized manner.
Responsibilities
  • Provide personal care to hospice patients in the community or home environment, including bathing, oral hygiene, hair care, nail care, incontinence care, dressing, grooming, toileting, and eating assistance.
  • Assist patients with transfers to chairs or beds, walking, and using assistive devices.
  • Provide skin care, position patients to help prevent pressure sores, and offer comfort items.
  • Assist with meal preparation and feeding, and monitor patients' intake.
  • Keep the patient's immediate environment clean and change linens.
  • Monitor vital signs, note changes in patient condition, and communicate concerns to the hospice nurse.
  • Provide companionship, listen to patients and families, and offer emotional comfort.
  • Work with the hospice team while serving an assigned patient caseload.
Desired Qualifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) is recommended.
