  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Three years of experience in a related job is preferred, or equivalent training and on-the-job training.
  • At least one year of experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
  • At least three years of experience and a high level of knowledge in one specific trade, including HVAC, refrigeration, or electrical, are preferred.
  • Certification in a related field is preferred.
  • The employee must complete competencies defined by the department, unit, or clinical specialty area.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • The employee must have expert-level knowledge of maintenance practices and expert-level skills using common tools and equipment.
  • The employee must understand and follow system, departmental, hospital, corporate, facility, and safety policies and procedures; use appropriate safety equipment; report unsafe conditions; and verify safe procedures with supervisors when needed.
  • Participation in an on-call rotation is required.
Responsibilities
  • Repair, overhaul, and perform preventive maintenance on hospital-owned equipment, fixtures, fittings, furnishings, and utility distribution systems.
  • Respond to all trouble calls in the hospital.
  • Repair non-medical equipment, including dietary and environmental-services equipment, beds, plumbing, lighting, and HVAC systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on non-medical equipment such as air-handling units, dish machines, and exhaust fans.
  • Restart and shut down chillers and boilers.
  • Implement and coordinate fire drills and serve as a member of the hospital fire-response team.
  • Document regulatory requirements, including those of The Joint Commission and the Texas Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Make general building repairs, including carpentry, ceiling, floor, and furniture repairs.
  • Perform paint and patch work.
  • Perform minor electrical repairs on portable non-medical equipment.
  • Repair medical-gas outlets in patient rooms.
  • Replace interior building lighting and reset circuit breakers as needed.
  • Enforce applicable policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Comply with the hospital code of conduct and model ethical behavior.
  • Support the hospital mission and vision and provide customer service.
