About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
  • At least 8 years of hands-on experience designing, testing, and debugging switching power converters, including DC/DC, DC/AC, or battery charge/discharge regulators, is required.
  • Experience as a box, assembly, or product-level Responsible Engineer, or an equivalent technical lead, with accountability for an integrated multi-card unit through integration and test is required.
  • Design experience with high-voltage power electronics above 100V, including bus architecture, protection circuits, and PCB layout considering creepage, clearance, and thermal management, is required.
  • Experience selecting and sizing power semiconductors such as silicon, silicon carbide, and/or gallium nitride, gate drivers, and magnetics is required.
  • Proficiency in performing and documenting power electronics analyses, including worst-case analysis, derating, stability, power dissipation, transient response, and reliability, is required.
  • Hands-on experience leading or substantially contributing to a hardware qualification campaign, including test plan development and anomaly resolution, is required.
  • End-to-end product development experience from requirements definition through qualification and production release is required.
  • Familiarity or fluency with AI tools and their application to design optimization, analysis, or requirements management is required.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, U.S. permanent residents, or lawfully admitted into the United States as refugees or granted asylum.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the single-threaded owner and Responsible Engineer for the Power Regulator product, leading a multidisciplinary team and owning the product architecture, requirements, interfaces, and budgets from concept through production.
  • Lead hands-on technical design and analysis of high-voltage, high-frequency switching power converters, including topology selection, component sizing for semiconductors and magnetics, control strategy, schematic design, and detailed electrical, thermal, and reliability analyses such as worst-case analysis and failure mode and effects analysis.
  • Own the complete hardware verification and qualification strategy, developing test plans for prototype and flight hardware, leading anomaly investigations, and ensuring the product is fully validated for the space environment.
  • Drive the product's transition to high-rate manufacturing by championing Design for Manufacturability and Test, defining automated test requirements, and collaborating with production teams to achieve cost and schedule targets.

Desired Qualifications

  • A graduate degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power electronics, or in a related technical field, is preferred.
  • Experience with solar array regulation, battery charge/discharge systems, and radiation-tolerant design practices is preferred.
  • Deep experience with high-frequency, wide-bandgap gallium nitride or silicon carbide converters, advanced topologies such as resonant or isolated converters, and high-frequency magnetics design is preferred.
  • Familiarity with digital control of power converters using field-programmable gate arrays, microcontrollers, or custom application-specific integrated circuits is preferred.
  • A background in high-volume industries such as automotive or data centers, focusing on Design for Manufacturability and Test, production test, and yield improvement, is preferred.
  • Expertise with modern design and simulation tools such as Altium Designer, LTspice, PLECS, and Python is preferred.

About the Company

Blue Origin

Builds rockets, engines and lunar spacecraft

Blue Origin builds rockets, engines and spacecraft for commercial satellite operators and government space programs. Its New Glenn orbital rocket uses a reusable first stage, while Blue Moon landers are designed to transport cargo and astronauts to the lunar surface. The company designs and manufactures liquid-fueled propulsion systems, and its New Shepard vehicle is built for short suborbital trips carrying people and research payloads. Customers pay for launch services and engines, and government development contracts fund work on systems for exploration beyond Earth orbit. Founded by Jeff Bezos in 2000, Blue Origin is headquartered in Kent, Washington.
