Requirements
  • Experience in community affairs, public affairs, economic development, government relations, municipal or provincial government, or a closely related field.
  • Direct experience working for or engaging with elected municipal councils, municipal administration, and provincial government on behalf of large infrastructure, construction, energy, or technology projects, with a working understanding of local politics and community dynamics.
  • Ability to build relationships and coalitions and maintain stakeholder relationships through difficult conversations.
  • Ability to represent a company credibly in public settings, including town halls, hearings, and press interviews.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including translating complex operational plans into plain language for local officials and reporters.
  • Ability to work independently, quickly understand complex policy issues, and manage multiple concurrent engagements across different markets.
  • Based in Alberta, Canada, or willing to relocate there, and prepared to travel regularly across the region.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a field relevant to the role.
Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with municipal governments, provincial ministers and agencies, economic development organizations, community groups, civic leaders, educational institutions, and workforce partners in covered data centre markets.
  • Develop and execute community engagement strategies for each market across site selection, pre-development, construction, and ongoing operations.
  • Build external coalitions, host education and listening sessions, and design local solutions that deliver benefits to operating communities.
  • Represent Anthropic in public forums, town halls, planning hearings, community events, and local media.
  • Monitor community sentiment and local political dynamics, and advise internal teams on engagement risks, opportunities, pace, and posture.
  • Partner with the Real Estate and Infrastructure team to incorporate community input into project planning, communication, and delivery.
  • Work with the Communications team to develop proactive, locally relevant messaging.
  • Coordinate charitable giving, community investment, and economic development commitments, including managing nonprofit partner relationships.
  • Partner with the Energy and Sustainability team to explain environmental stewardship and respond to questions about power, water, and land use.
  • Build a community engagement playbook and repeatable processes that scale with Anthropic's infrastructure footprint.
Desired Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in community engagement on data centre, utility, energy, or large-scale industrial infrastructure projects, or in local government.
  • Familiarity with land use, zoning, and development permitting processes at the municipal and provincial levels.
  • Experience managing corporate social responsibility programs.
  • Established relationships with economic development, workforce, or civic organizations in the covered markets.
  • Experience working concurrently with real estate, legal, communications, and policy teams.

FTX's $500M Anthropic stake now worth up to $77B — but creditors sold for $1.3B

FTX's bankruptcy estate sold its 8% stake in Anthropic for $1.3 billion in 2024, a deal that looked profitable at the time. The AI company has since raised funds at a $965 billion valuation, meaning the stake FTX sold would now be worth between $60 billion and $77 billion on paper. The biggest buyer was ATIC Third International Investment, linked to Abu Dhabi's Mubadala fund, which paid nearly $500 million. Jane Street, where FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried previously worked, bought $100 million worth. Other buyers included Fidelity, Ford Foundation, and HOF Capital. FTX creditors have recovered 103% to 120% of their claims, totalling roughly $10 billion across five payment rounds. However, claims were valued at November 2022 prices, when bitcoin traded around $16,000, meaning customers won't benefit from subsequent crypto appreciation or Anthropic's massive valuation increase.

Broadcom to lend Anthropic up to $42B to lease chips ahead of IPO

Broadcom has agreed to lend Anthropic up to $42 billion to finance infrastructure spending, according to the AI company's IPO filing.
