About the job

Requirements
  • Experience building large-scale distributed systems with strict performance, availability, and correctness requirements.
  • Experience with low-latency systems work, including real-time configuration delivery, software development kit and runtime performance, caching, concurrency, and high-throughput service design.
  • Experience building or operating large-scale data platforms, event pipelines, analytics systems, or query infrastructure where freshness and correctness matter.
  • Strong focus on reliability, observability, incident response, capacity planning, and operating critical production systems.
  • Ownership of complex technical problems end to end.
Responsibilities
  • Design and operate low-latency configuration delivery systems powering feature flags, dynamic configurations, and progressive rollouts across OpenAI product suites.
  • Scale software development kit, server-side evaluation, and control-plane systems so high-volume services can depend on Statsig without adding user-visible latency or operational fragility.
  • Build high-throughput data ingestion and analytics infrastructure for experimentation, product analytics, feature performance monitoring, and model or product measurement workflows.
  • Improve performance, efficiency, reliability, and observability of core Statsig infrastructure as OpenAI products scale globally.
  • Optimize query performance, data freshness, and data availability for teams making launch decisions from experimentation and analytics workflows.
  • Strengthen operational excellence through improved service-level objectives, alerting, debugging tools, incident response, capacity planning, and failure-mode design.
  • Partner with teams across ChatGPT, Codex, model measurement, consumer ads, business subscriptions, developer products, and infrastructure to turn recurring launch and measurement needs into durable platform capabilities.
  • Lead large technical initiatives and shape the architecture of experimentation and rollout infrastructure used across the company.

OpenAI to watermark ChatGPT text in EU to comply with AI Act transparency rules

OpenAI will begin watermarking text generated by ChatGPT and Codex in the European Union to comply with the EU AI Act's transparency rules, which require AI-generated content to be identifiable by other systems. The watermark, rolling out over coming weeks to EU users, works by subtly shaping the model's word choices in a pattern detectable only by specialised tools. It accompanies text when copied and pasted but doesn't identify individual users. OpenAI's technical report, called textGrain and co-written with researchers from the University of Pennsylvania and Yale, shows the method can be defeated through editing. Replacing 10% of words with synonyms dropped detection rates from 92% to 66%. The company said initial detector access will be limited to approved researchers and expert organisations. OpenAI warned that missing watermarks don't prove human authorship, as text could be too short, heavily edited, or generated by other AI systems.

OpenAI launches visual ads alongside ChatGPT image generation to woo 1.2B weekly users

OpenAI is introducing visual display advertisements that will appear alongside AI-generated images in ChatGPT. The ads will launch later this month in the US, featuring products from an initial test group of advertisers. The company emphasises that ads will be clearly labelled and won't influence ChatGPT's responses. This expansion follows OpenAI's earlier ad launch this year and its August rollout in India. The move aims to monetise ChatGPT's 1.2 billion weekly users once ads expand globally. OpenAI is also enhancing its advertising infrastructure with new measurement tools and partnerships, including click attribution solutions from AppsFlyer, Triple Whale, and Adjust. The company is developing brand suitability evaluation pilots with DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science to help advertisers better understand the ChatGPT advertising environment.

DV launches attribution measurement and brand suitability tools for ChatGPT ads

DoubleVerify has launched attribution measurement for ChatGPT advertisements, allowing advertisers to assess the platform's contribution to customer acquisition and return on ad spend. The software company is also developing a brand suitability evaluation pilot with OpenAI to help advertisers ensure their ads appear in appropriate conversational contexts whilst protecting user privacy. Weight Watchers tested the new measurement capabilities and found ChatGPT's attributed cost per acquisition was 15.3% below its established benchmark during the measured period. The company used DoubleVerify's Rockerbox tool to evaluate ChatGPT ads alongside existing marketing channels. The attribution and brand suitability features are part of DoubleVerify's Media AdVantage Platform, which combines media verification, AI-powered optimisation, and campaign measurement. DoubleVerify CEO Mark Zagorski said the tools help marketers understand ChatGPT ads' role across the customer journey rather than viewing performance in isolation.

Asian advertisers hesitate on ChatGPT ads despite OpenAI's $100B 2030 revenue target

OpenAI is struggling to convince Asian advertisers to invest heavily in ChatGPT ads despite launching in over 60 markets, including India and Southeast Asia. The company reportedly aims to generate $2.5 billion in ad revenue this year and $100 billion by 2030. Advertisers cite several concerns. ChatGPT ads cost significantly more than Meta or Google whilst lacking reliable performance tracking and conversion metrics. Initial pricing remains unstable, discouraging large budget commitments. A peer-reviewed study found ChatGPT referrals converted poorly for e-commerce sites, though they performed better for complex products like travel and financial services. Research firm Emarketer estimates the entire US standalone-chatbot advertising market will reach only $5.41 billion by 2030, making OpenAI's targets appear unrealistic. Industry executives suggest waiting 12 to 18 months before dependable performance data emerges.

OpenAI safety leader resigns amid mounting team upheaval and security concerns

David Robinson, a leader on OpenAI's Safety Systems team, has resigned from the company, an OpenAI spokesperson confirmed on Friday. Robinson, who previously led policy planning and worked on safety transparency, left last week. His departure adds to mounting upheaval in OpenAI's safety ranks. The company announced on Thursday it had parted ways with three researchers for violating policies on sharing sensitive information. Johannes Heidecke, the company's safety head, also left earlier this year. The resignations come as OpenAI faces scrutiny over its safety practices following the Hugging Face security breach and several incidents of AI model misbehaviour. In September, Robinson wrote on X that whilst people at OpenAI were recognising the implications of highly capable AI models, he questioned whether "we are changing fast enough.
