About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in testing, verification, or validation, including ownership of a lasting gate, review, or reporting standard.
  • Experience in a domain where errors have physical consequences, such as autonomous vehicles, aviation, medical devices, rail, industrial automation, or defence.
  • Ability to apply hazard-driven thinking and work directly with hazard-analysis output.
  • Ability to assess and communicate residual risk, including what remains unknown and what risk is being accepted.
  • Ability to influence engineers and QA colleagues without formal authority.
  • Ability to independently verify data behind safety metrics rather than relying only on dashboards.
  • Fluent use of large language models as a working tool for reviewing standards, logs, and results and drafting role-related documents.
  • Excellent written English.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Own the safety gates, including safety-relevant finding classification and escalation, merge and release criteria, and tracking findings through closure.
  • Own acceptance criteria for each testing gate, including measurements for collisions, near misses, right-of-way, and hard braking, and update thresholds as the technology changes.
  • Define the safety-report format used by the QA team, ensuring reports are comparable between runs, explicit about uncovered areas, and concise enough to support decisions.
  • Run calibration sessions, review reports, and coach the QA team on applying safety criteria consistently.
  • Represent testing evidence and remaining unknowns in release reviews involving engineering, safety, and operations.
  • Trace hazard-analysis outputs through scenario-set requirements and test results to evidence supporting the safety case.
  • Translate the safety framework into testable requirements with the Head of Safety and collaborate with development and analytics on measurable tooling.
  • Track standards and regulations governing driverless operation in Texas and elsewhere and incorporate relevant requirements into testing.

Desired Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of applicable standards, including ISO 21448 (SOTIF), ISO/TS 5083, UL 4600, ISO 26262, ISO 34501–34505, DO-178C, IEC 62304, ISO 14971, EN 50716, or IEC 61508.
  • Experience with autonomous vehicles, advanced driver-assistance systems, or another domain operating without a human fallback.
  • Direct contribution to a safety case, a Voluntary Safety Self-Assessment, or a regulatory submission.
  • Experience defining on-road testing safety protocols and safety-driver procedures.
  • Experience hiring engineers.
  • Hands-on SQL and Python for investigating test results.

About the Company

Avride

Autonomous vehicles and delivery robots platform

Avride.ai builds and runs autonomous cars and delivery robots.
