About the job

Requirements
  • Hands-on experience planning and running complex events or programs that reached thousands of people, within a team with real stakeholders and dependencies rather than a small informal pilot.
  • Five or more years of experience is a reference point; demonstrated ability to plan, run, and deliver comparable work independently is more important.
  • Ability to execute an established plan precisely and take full ownership of a project without an existing plan.
  • Ability to build working trust quickly with new teams without formal authority.
  • Stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills with internal teams and external partners.
  • Analytical skills, including drawing insights from research and focus groups and using data to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills and sound judgment about tone.
  • Ability to build AI systems and workflows that replace repetitive manual work.
Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end operational delivery of tutor-facing programs and projects, including sourcing speakers, coordinating logistics, and tracking results for the annual tutor conference and webinar series.
  • Drive new engagement projects from ideation through delivery.
  • Own the operational delivery of community activities, including contests, awards, and story collections.
  • Support the Academy learning management system migration by coordinating content transfer, reviewing content, and building an AI workflow to accelerate the work.
  • Run focus groups, light research, and data analysis to improve tutor experience across channels and Preply.
  • Establish a reporting cadence to track program performance.
  • Deliver tutor engagement programs that provide value across community, learning, and product launches.
  • Help improve tutor sentiment and trust so tutors remain motivated and engaged.
  • Ensure tutor feedback reaches decision-makers and that research and focus groups inform decisions.
  • Maintain operational processes that help the team work quickly and deliver programs on time.
Desired Qualifications
  • Strong user empathy and understanding of how programs affect tutors’ ability to earn and feel supported.
  • Familiarity with a learning management system such as Docebo, 360Learning, or Thinkific.
  • Experience in professional development or marketplace environments.
  • Experience in content creation, including learning content, and content operations.

About the company

Preply is an online language-learning marketplace that connects learners with live tutors for 90+ languages across 180 countries. Through the platform, students can choose a language, browse tutors, schedule lessons, and receive video-based instruction from tutors around the world. Lessons are supported by an AI co-pilot toolkit that helps with practice, personalization, and learning data to aid the tutoring process. What sets Preply apart is its large, global network of more than 100,000 tutors, a broad language catalog, and a focus on combining human teaching with AI-assisted tools, backed by strong funding and profitability signals (it became EBITDA-positive) and a recent €127 million Series D to expand AI/data capabilities, product and engineering hiring, and global growth. The company’s goal is to make language learning accessible and effective for learners anywhere by scaling high-quality tutoring worldwide and enhancing it with AI-driven tools.

What believers are saying

  • January 2026 funding gave Preply $150 million for AI and global expansion.
  • May 2026 tender offered employees liquidity at the same $1.2 billion valuation.
  • September 2026 research kept pushing 1:1 tutoring over self-study apps.

What critics are saying

  • June 2, 2026 outage took Preply offline for 28 minutes, exposing reliability risk.
  • Kyiv's 150-person office faces Russian strikes, sheltering, and power outages.
  • If learners accept AI-only speaking practice, Preply's tutor marketplace loses its reason to exist.

What makes Preply unique

  • Preply owns live, one-on-one tutoring across 90+ languages and 180 countries.
  • January 2026 Series D validated a human-led marketplace, not a content library.
  • AI copilots summarize lessons, generate homework, and improve tutor matching.

Preply hires ex-Stitch Fix, Rubrik people chief and Duolingo data head after $150M Series D

Preply, the online language learning marketplace, has hired two senior executives in the US. Lillian Reaume joins as chief people officer, and Bilal Zia joins as vice president of data science and analytics. Reaume previously held the same role at Stitch Fix and Rubrik, and worked at Amazon. Zia was head of data science and analytics at Duolingo and has also worked at Amazon and the World Bank. The hires follow a $150M Series D round led by WestCap earlier this year, which valued Preply at $1.2 billion. The company connects learners in 180 countries with more than 150,000 tutors teaching over 90 languages. "Their leadership across people and data will be essential as we scale globally and strengthen our presence in the US," said Kirill Bigai, co-founder and chief executive officer.

Preply hits $1.2B valuation with $150M Series D, achieving EBITDA profitability

Preply has achieved unicorn status with a $1.2 billion valuation following a $150 million Series D funding round. The online language learning marketplace connects over 100,000 tutors with learners in 180 countries and reported turning EBITDA positive in the 12 months prior to the funding. The company remains private and is not listed on any stock exchange. Unlike traditional EdTech platforms, Preply operates as a marketplace between independent tutors and students, avoiding the high costs of proprietary content creation. The platform faces operational risks including competition from AI and automated translation tools. A significant portion of its operations and workforce is based in Kyiv, Ukraine, creating potential business continuity concerns. Quality control across its decentralised tutor network also requires constant oversight.
