About the company

Twelve transforms carbon dioxide into hydrocarbons and other essential products that traditionally rely on fossil fuels. It uses a process modeled on industrial photosynthesis, combining CO2, water, and renewable energy to make hydrocarbons that can power fuels and serve as building blocks for materials. The company licenses its technology, sells CO2-derived products, and pursues joint ventures to scale solutions, aiming to fit into existing supply chains rather than just selling equipment. Its goal is to replace fossil fuels in industrial processes by delivering low-emission, CO2-based production pathways that support a circular carbon economy.

What believers are saying

  • AirPlant One opened June 10, 2026, and is already producing on-spec fuel.
  • September 9, 2026 refinancing added $45 million for hydrogen expansion and operations.
  • Offtake deals with Alaska Airlines and Microsoft lock early demand for output.

What critics are saying

  • AirPlant One produces only 50,000 gallons yearly, trivial versus airline fuel demand.
  • Twelve depends on cheap hydropower, CO2 sourcing, and electrolyzers at Moses Lake.
  • If commercial yields disappoint, lenders and airlines abandon Twelve’s scaling thesis quickly.

What makes Twelve unique

  • First U.S. commercial power-to-liquid plant makes ASTM-certified E-Jet from CO2, water, hydropower.
  • Twelve sells both fuels and chemical feedstocks, broadening monetization beyond aviation.
  • Alaska Airlines, Microsoft, and Japanese strategics validate customers, capital, and distribution.

Twelve secures $45M credit facility to expand CO2-based clean fuels plant

Twelve, a California-based cleantech company, has secured a $45 million credit facility to refinance construction and support expansion at its AirPlant One facility in Moses Lake, Washington. The plant produces E-Jet fuel and E-Naphtha from captured CO2, water and renewable electricity powered entirely by hydropower. Founded in 2015, Twelve transforms CO2 into chemicals, materials and fuels. Its sustainable aviation fuel can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional jet fuel. AirPlant One is the first commercial-scale facility in the US producing power-to-liquid sustainable aviation fuel. The financing, led by Endurance Capital and Nomura, will support increased hydrogen production capacity at the site following the plant's transition to commercial operation.

America's first commercial E-Jet fuel plant begins operations in Moses Lake

Twelve has opened AirPlant One in Moses Lake, Washington, the first commercial-scale facility in the US to produce E-Jet fuel from CO₂, renewable electricity and water. Alaska Airlines and Microsoft joined the ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the beginning of commercial production of the power-to-liquid sustainable aviation fuel. The facility produces ASTM-certified jet fuel that requires no modifications to aircraft or infrastructure. Alaska Airlines will operate regular domestic flights using E-Jet SAF from the plant, which delivers up to 90% lower lifecycle CO₂ emissions compared to conventional jet fuel. AirPlant One also produces E-Naphtha, a chemical building block for everyday products. Twelve raised $645 million to support the project, with Microsoft investing through its Climate Innovation Fund and committing to purchase SAF through an offtake agreement.
