About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline with 7 years of experience in facilities engineering, construction project management, or a related field; alternatively, 15 years of hands-on facilities and infrastructure engineering experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Demonstrated experience leading end-to-end capital project delivery, from requirements and design through construction execution and operational commissioning, in an industrial, defense, or manufacturing environment.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading and developing engineering teams, including building team structure, driving accountability, and growing individual contributors in a fast-paced technical environment.
  • Ability to establish processes and standards in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, including project controls methodology, statements of work development, and documentation frameworks where formal systems did not previously exist.
  • Experience managing external contractors, construction firms, and vendors, including bid evaluation, contract oversight, and performance management across concurrent projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to translate technical project status, risk, and recommendations into executive-level presentations and program reviews.
  • Commitment to safety culture and ability to work within rigorous regulatory environments, including OSHA, ITAR, and hazardous or energetic materials standards.
  • Ability to meet eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain applicable state and federal explosives licenses, including minimum age requirements of 21 or older, drug-free workplace requirements, and successful completion of legally required background investigations.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations for export-regulation compliance.
  • Must be eligible to obtain required export authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Responsibilities
  • Lead, develop, and grow a team of 5–8 engineers across facility design, construction project engineering, commissioning, and industrial engineering by establishing expectations, driving accountability, and building a culture of technical excellence and ownership.
  • Serve as the technical anchor for Mission Infrastructure Engineering, maintaining hands-on engagement with active capital projects, reviewing statements of work and building plans, and providing engineering guidance through the infrastructure lifecycle from requirements through operational commissioning.
  • Own the Mission Infrastructure Engineering project portfolio, delivering active capital projects against schedule, budget, and scope while establishing program controls, documentation standards, and execution processes.
  • Translate program and Department of Defense requirements into facility infrastructure strategies, partnering with Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Automation and Controls Engineering, Safety, and Compliance to ensure physical environments support operational requirements.
  • Establish processes, standards, and tools for Mission Infrastructure Engineering delivery, including statements of work development frameworks, project controls methodology, commissioning protocols, and facility design review processes.
  • Manage relationships with external contractors, construction firms, subcontractors, and vendors; lead bid evaluations, oversee contract performance, and ensure scope, schedule, and quality commitments are met across active projects.
  • Prepare and present capital project proposals, budget requests, status updates, and program reviews for Manufacturing Engineering leadership and senior stakeholders, communicating project health, risks, and required decisions.
  • Recruit, onboard, and develop Mission Infrastructure Engineering team members, identify talent gaps as the group scales, build a hiring pipeline across its four disciplines, and mentor engineers toward greater technical depth and leadership capability.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with energetic materials, explosives, or other hazardous manufacturing facility construction, including C1D1/C2D1 classified environments.
  • Proficiency with project scheduling and controls tools such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or equivalent, including use in managing multidisciplinary capital project portfolios.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design tools for reviewing facility drawings, site plans, and construction documents.
  • PMP, CCM, or equivalent project management certification applied to capital construction or industrial facility programs.

About the company

Voyager Technologies uses a vertical integration approach to unify multiple space and defense firms, offering end-to-end space and defense capabilities. It operates in three segments—Defense & National Security, Space Solutions, and Starlab Space Stations—and earns much of its revenue from U.S. government contracts for missile defense, propulsion, and signals intelligence, while handling mission planning, payload integration, launch support, and on-orbit operations. Its flagship Starlab space station, developed with Airbus for a single-launch deployment on a SpaceX Starship, plus the Bishop Airlock and lunar initiatives from Astrobotic, illustrate its integrated space infrastructure. The company aims to grow the commercial space economy and extend human activity in space by providing a continuous private space platform in low Earth orbit for government and commercial users.

Helicity Space raises $5M seed funding for fusion propulsion technology

Helicity Space has raised $5 million in seed funding to develop its fusion-powered space propulsion technology. The round was led by Airbus Ventures, TRE Ventures, Voyager Space Holdings, E2MC Space, Urania Ventures, and Gaingels. The company's Helicity Drive technology uses plectonemic plasma jets, magnetic reconnection, and peristaltic magnetic compression to create scalable fusion propulsion engines. Founders Dr Setthivoine You, Marta Calvo, and Stephane Lintner bring expertise from plasma physics, chemical engineering, and finance. The technology aims to make space travel faster, safer, and more fuel-efficient. Dr You addressed concerns about the modest funding amount, explaining their scalable approach allows starting small with fewer plasma sources before expanding. The company is focusing on space propulsion first before pursuing terrestrial energy applications.

Voyager delivers quick disconnect plates for ESA's eco-friendly methane rocket

Voyager Technologies has delivered and integrated quick disconnect plates for the European Space Agency's In-Flight Demonstrator rocket. The company worked under contract to Avio, ESA's prime contractor for the PNRR-STS Programme, as part of Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Voyager designed, built and integrated a dual-interface quick disconnect system comprising a flight unit installed internally and a ground unit mounted externally. These components connect internal fuel systems to ground infrastructure and safely detach during launch operations. The IFD is a single-stage rocket equipped with a cryogenic liquid oxygen and methane engine. The project is funded by the European Union's NextGenerationEU programme and Italy's Complementary Fund. Matt Magaña, president of Space, Defense & National Security at Voyager, said the delivery demonstrates the company's ability to provide flight-ready systems efficiently.
