Grindr targets affluent users with new premium dating services.

Grindr targets affluent users with new premium dating services. Grindr is planning to expand its premium offerings as the dating app looks to generate more revenue from affluent users while maintaining its free core service. The company is developing a range of higher-priced products, including Edge, an AI-supported service that can cost hundreds of dollars per month depending on location. It is also planning a more expensive "luxury lifestyle and experiences" offering, which chief executive George Arison has described as a social club aimed at gay men. The strategy comes as Grindr continues to grow its user base but converts a relatively small proportion of users into paying customers. The company reported an average of 1.4 million paying users among 15 million monthly active users in the second quarter of 2026, meaning roughly 9% of its monthly users were paying subscribers. Morgan Stanley analysts estimate that Grindr monetises its user base at a lower rate than its major competitors. The company is therefore looking to increase revenue per paying customer rather than relying solely on expanding its overall audience. Arison said the premium strategy is aimed at users with significant disposable income who place a high value on their time. The company has also raised its full-year financial guidance, forecasting at least $540 million in revenue and $232 million in adjusted earnings. The approach represents a shift in how Grindr views its paid services. Rather than limiting monetisation to additional dating features, the company is considering products that extend into lifestyle and experiences. At the same time, Grindr faces challenges around regulation and user growth. Arison said the UK's Online Safety Act, which requires age verification for services providing access to adult content, has discouraged some users concerned about privacy and the possibility of being identified as gay. This naturally impacts Grindr, given that a notable portion of adults dislike offering up their ID to prove their age - althoguh

Google kills RAM hogs, Grindr tests $375/Month AI, and the day no app went viral.

Google kills RAM hogs, Grindr tests $375/Month AI, and the day no app went viral. Google mandates memory limits for Play Store apps, Grindr experiments with a wildly expensive AI tier, and August 31 brought zero breakout launches. Published August 31, 2026 RAMageddon is coming for your app. Google just announced that starting in 2027, every app distributed through the Play Store will need to stay within strict memory limits or face consequences. The goal? Stop individual apps from hogging so much RAM that they slow down the entire device. This is being called "RAMageddon" in developer circles, and it's a real policy change with teeth. Google says it's about "protecting the overall user experience," which in practice means every social app, game, and entertainment platform will need to optimize memory usage or risk distribution penalties. For consumer apps, this is infrastructure becoming policy. If you've been shipping a feature-bloated app that quietly eats 2GB of RAM because users have never complained loudly enough, 2027 is your deadline to fix it. The Play Store just became a performance cop. Grindr wants $375/month for AI (yes, really). Meanwhile, Grindr is testing a new AI-powered subscription tier called EDGE that would sit above its existing XTRA ($23.99/month) and Unlimited ($44.99/month) plans. In a Canadian test, the pricing came out to roughly $350-$375 per month in U.S. dollars. The internet immediately roasted the idea - one viral tweet pointed out that for $375 you could literally just go on dates instead of paying an app to help you meet people. Grindr insists this was a price-elasticity experiment, not a final consumer price, but the optics are terrible. Even if only a handful of users convert, the sticker shock alone is a brand risk. What's actually interesting here is not the price - it's the AI layer they're testing. The company hasn't disclosed exactly what EDGE does, but the framing suggests personalized matching, conversation assistance, or priority placement powered by models. That's the same playbook dating apps are all trying: charge more for algorithmic preference, not just for removing ads. The everything-app pivot. Grindr's bigger bet is reframing itself as an "everything app for gay men" rather than just a dating or hookup platform. The company is adding healthcare features - ED medication, HIV prevention, connections to gay doctors - and travel tools to help users find community wherever they go. This is a classic "super-app" strategy: expand from one core use case (dating) into adjacent services (health, travel, social utilities) and become a lifestyle hub. It's the same logic that turned WeChat into payments and Grab into everything-but-dating. Whether Grindr can actually pull this off is the open question. Investors are skeptical. The app has dominant share in its category but hasn't proven it can monetize at the scale of a true platform. And if the EDGE experiment is any indication, the company's pricing instincts may not match user willingness to pay. And nothing launched today. August 31, 2026 brought exactly zero notable consumer app launches. No viral new social app. No surprise feature update climbing the charts. Not even a decent pillow guide or overhyped AI chatbot. This isn't a trend - it's just timing. Sometimes the calendar lines up and half the industry is either prepping for fall releases or already mid-sprint on the next thing. The fact that the biggest app story of the day is a 2027 policy change and a pricing test tells you everything. Contrast this with the noise around upcoming Apple OS releases, which are slated for fall and promise deeper Siri AI integration across devices. That's the backdrop: platforms are building the rails, and consumer apps are waiting to see what rides on them. What this means. The RAM limits are real and developers should start profiling now. The Grindr experiment is a bad look but a useful signal - AI pricing is still being figured out, and some companies will fail loudly while searching for the ceiling. As for the quiet launch day: it happens. The App Store doesn't run on a content calendar, and not every Sunday brings a breakout hit. But when the most concrete stories are a policy memo and a monetization test, it's worth saying so and moving on.

Grindr revenue set to triple to $540M+ as CEO pitches 'gayborhood in your pocket' strategy

Grindr's revenue is set to nearly triple from $195 million in 2022 to over $540 million this year, with adjusted EBITDA margins above 40%. Growth has come primarily from increasing average revenue per user rather than expanding the user base, which stands at 1.4 million paying subscribers. CEO George Arison is positioning Grindr as a "gayborhood in your pocket", expanding beyond dating into healthcare and travel services. The company is testing a premium AI-powered subscription tier called EDGE, which has drawn attention for its high test pricing. Arison says roughly 80% of Grindr's code is now AI-written, enabling a team of around 95 technical staff to achieve 2.5 times previous productivity levels. The company employs 175 US staff plus a team in Colombia. Despite recent stock gains, Grindr still trades at an approximately 35% discount to peers. Arison attributes this partly to stigma around the platform, though major banks including Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have raised price targets this year.

Goose founder Derek Chadwick steps down from Grindr rival after two months.

Goose founder Derek Chadwick steps down from Grindr rival after two months. Gay dating app Goose founder Derek Chadwick has announced his departure, admitting the company's direction no longer aligns with his original vision. Launched in late June 2026, Goose was marketed as a Grindr rival, a platform that fosters real relationships over just sex and hook-ups. According to its official Google Play app description, Goose allows gay men to "discover guys through shared places, interests, friends, and moments happening around you". How does Goose work? "No Matches. Just Waves. Goose replaces matching with a simple wave. If two people wave at each other, they're connected. It's lighter, more natural, and removes pressure from the start." Since its launch, Goose has gained a 4.5-star rating on the Apple App Store, with one user writing: "Highly recommend Goose, quality, not hookup." Chadwick, known for his acting career, notably in The Sex Lives of College Girls, announced he left the company last week. Derek Chadwick leaves Goose after the company changes direction. In an Instagram statement, the founder wrote: "Where I landed is that my vision for where this should go and the direction the company is going aren't the same thing anymore," he wrote. "When my name and my face are on something, I want to be able to stand behind all of it, fully. As that stopped being true, staying didn't feel right." "Although I'm no longer involved with Goose in any capacity, I wish the team the best - there are great people over there working incredibly hard to make Goose special," he continued. "To everyone who joined, who waved, who sent me a message, who told me they actually made a friend on there, thank you. That was always the whole point for me, and it still is." "I'm not done building for us. More soon" - Chadwick teasing more gay projects. Chadwick indicated that he plans to continue creating projects for the gay community, ending with: "I'm not done building for us. More soon." Goose previously faced backlash over a number of data privacy concerns after sections of its terms and conditions were scrutinised online. Since then, Goose has amended the section to "reflect industry-standard language commonly used across lifestyle and dating apps". Many have described the wording as exploitative and questioned whether Goose is truly the hook-up-free app it claims to be, particularly given that it includes disappearing photos, a feature also associated with Grindr.
