About the Job

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree is required.
  • Experience in engineering analysis of aerodynamic designs using computational fluid dynamics software.
  • Typically, at least 5 years of mechanical part design experience in processes such as injection molding, stamping, forging, die casting, or computer numerical control machining.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, self-motivate, and identify and drive resolution of design issues across multiple projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills using systematic and structured approaches.
  • A track record in mechanical- or hardware-related fields such as design, manufacturing, operations, or reliability.
  • Ability to synthesize, analyze, derive insights from, and clearly summarize complex data.
  • Experience using 2D and 3D drafting and modeling software.
  • Experience with 2D mechanical drawing layout and familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, statistical process control, or process capability indices.
  • Experience with NX, SolidWorks, Creo, Pro/ENGINEER, or similar software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop every aspect of cooling fan designs, including aerodynamic design, system integration details, thermal design targets, industrial design goals, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • Develop and analyze candidate aerodynamic fan designs using computational fluid dynamics software and help implement them in engineering builds and mass production.
  • Define and review meaningful tests for thermal module design qualification.
  • Work with fan and thermal module vendors to validate designs and solve thermal design problems.
  • Review and interpret prototype test data to validate design concepts.
  • Conduct aerodynamic design analysis using STAR-CCM+ computational fluid dynamics software.
  • Work with Thermal Design and Noise & Vibration teams to meet airflow and acoustic requirements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to integrate fan modules into systems while balancing aesthetics, manufacturability, reliability, cost, and environmental impact.
  • Create 3D models and 2D drawings to capture detailed design intent and establish specifications.
  • Perform detailed mechanical design of modules and relevant design for manufacturability work.
  • Plan, coordinate, analyze, and summarize experiments to validate design concepts.
  • Identify root causes and corrective actions for performance, quality, and reliability failures.
  • Work with module vendors and tooling engineers to ensure implementation follows design intent.
  • Occasionally travel to Asia for factory builds or in-person problem solving.

Desired Qualifications

  • A Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree.
  • Prior experience in design for high-volume consumer products.
  • Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with a multidisciplinary team.
  • DC brushless motor design experience.
  • Experience with artificial intelligence or machine learning design tools.
  • Experience with prototype design.
