Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority

View

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority operates Reagan National and Dulles International airports, which provide domestic and international air service for the mid-Atlantic region. It also runs the Dulles Toll Road and managed construction of the Metrorail Silver Line extension to Dulles and Loudoun County. A board appointed by the governors of Virginia and Maryland, the mayor of Washington, D.C. and the President sets its policy. The authority is not taxpayer funded: landing fees, rents and concessions cover operations, while bonds and passenger facility charges help pay for airport construction. It took over both airports from the Federal Aviation Administration in 1987 and is headquartered in Arlington, Virginia.
