About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronics, or a related field, with 1–3+ years of experience in electronics design or hardware development.
  • A strong foundation in electronics fundamentals, including power electronics, analogue and digital circuit design, signal integrity, and grounding principles.
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout using electronic computer-aided design tools, and circuit simulation tools.
  • Hands-on experience with standard laboratory instrumentation, ability to read datasheets, perform component-level analysis, and troubleshoot hardware issues.
  • Strong documentation skills and effective communication abilities for working within cross-functional engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop flight-quality printed circuit board assemblies for spacecraft avionics systems, including schematic capture, component selection, circuit design for power electronics and control systems, and collaboration with PCB layout designers.
  • Conduct electrical analyses, including worst-case analysis, power budgets, thermal derating, and signal integrity assessments, to verify design robustness.
  • Participate in hands-on bring-up, debugging, and verification of prototype hardware, and support environmental testing activities including thermal vacuum, vibration, and electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility testing.
  • Create and maintain design documentation, including schematics, bills of materials, test reports, and design justification documents.
  • Collaborate with Test, Manufacturing, Systems Engineering, and other subsystem groups to resolve interface issues and support integrated system development.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience designing power electronics such as DC-DC converters, linear regulators, power distribution circuits, or motor drive electronics.
  • Familiarity with space-specific design considerations such as radiation effects, thermal management in vacuum, component derating, or aerospace qualification testing.
  • Experience performing detailed electrical analyses such as worst-case analysis, thermal analysis, and power budgeting, and understanding of design for manufacturability and design for test principles.
  • Programming experience in Python or MATLAB for data analysis or test automation, or familiarity with FPGA development using Verilog or VHDL.
  • Understanding of requirements management and configuration control processes in regulated or high-reliability environments.

About the Company

Rocket Lab Corporation

Builds rockets, satellites and space components

Rocket Lab builds and launches rockets, designs satellites and sells spacecraft components for commercial operators, governments and defense customers. Its Electron rocket carries small satellites on dedicated missions, while its Space Systems business supplies complete spacecraft and the hardware and software needed to operate them. Customers pay for launch services, satellite development, component sales and mission support, giving the group business beyond sending its own rockets into space. The company is developing Neutron, a larger reusable rocket intended for constellation deployment and other heavier missions. Rocket Lab's operating business began in 2006 and the group is headquartered in Long Beach, California.
