  • Strong documentation and written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a 24x7 shift-based operational environment.
  • Ability to perform office-related tasks, including prolonged sitting or standing, move within an office environment, and effectively use a computer.
  • Availability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required in a 24x7 environment.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the second-level escalation point for optical and IP network incidents and alarms.
  • Independently troubleshoot and restore service for complex incidents across optical transport and IP routing domains.

  • Perform in-depth troubleshooting of optical (DWDM, CWDM) and IP (IPv4/IPv6, MPLS, BGP, OSPF) networks, including analysis of optical power levels, OSNR, BER/FEC counters, routing tables, protocol adjacencies, and traffic paths.
  • Isolate faults across layers and domains (fiber, optics, transport, routing) and drive incidents to restoration.
  • Act as incident owner for major service-impacting events on shift, coordinating technical resources and providing timely updates to Team Leads and stakeholders.
  • Escalate highly complex, architectural, or cross-organizational issues to Network Operations Engineers III, Engineering, or the Team Lead with clear diagnostic findings.

  • Perform root cause analysis for significant incidents and contribute to post-incident reports and corrective action tracking.
  • Identify recurring issues and trends, and recommend preventive or corrective actions.
  • Validate service stability after restoration and confirm service-level agreement adherence.
  • Plan, prepare, and execute scheduled maintenance activities and network changes, including method-of-procedure review, pre- and post-checks, and rollback planning.
  • Participate in change review processes and assess operational risk of proposed changes.
  • Support turn-up, testing, and acceptance of new circuits, services, and network elements.

  • Experience with fiber testing tools (OTDR, power meters, light sources) and interpreting results.
  • Scripting or automation experience (e.g., Python, Ansible) for operational tasks.
  • Experience with ITIL-based incident, problem, and change management processes.
  • Familiarity with NOC monitoring, alarm correlation, and ticketing platforms.
  • Prior experience mentoring or training junior engineers.

Cognizant acquires Astreya to scale AI infrastructure amid $6.7T data centre buildout

Cognizant has agreed to acquire Astreya, a global AI-first IT managed services provider based in San Jose, California, for an undisclosed sum. The transaction, expected to close in the second quarter of 2026, will expand Cognizant's AI infrastructure capabilities and strengthen its position as an "AI builder". Founded in 2001 and operating across over 35 countries, Astreya provides managed services to six of the "Magnificent Seven" hyperscalers. Its proprietary AI OpsHub platform and expertise in designing and managing AI infrastructure across the full value chain will complement Cognizant's existing capabilities. The acquisition comes amid a projected $6.7 trillion AI data centre infrastructure buildout between 2025 and 2030, with the five largest hyperscalers expected to spend nearly $700 billion on infrastructure in 2026 alone.

Cognizant to buy Astreya for about $600 million. Published 04/29/2026, 04:34 AM Updated 04/29/2026, 04:36 AM (C) Reuters. By Milana Vinn and Natalia Bueno Rebolledo April 29 (Reuters) - Cognizant Technology has agreed to buy Astreya, an IT services and technology provider focused on AI infrastructure and data center services, in a deal valued at around $600 million, the company told Reuters. The deal is expected to strengthen Cognizant's AI infrastructure capabilities, as companies ramp up spending on the technology that is reshaping industries. The deal, expected to close in the second quarter of 2026 pending regulatory approvals, is likely to be announced on Wednesday. Cognizant has benefited from enterprise clients accelerating AI integration and automation as they migrate workloads to the cloud. The company has expanded partnerships with Microsoft and AI startup Anthropic to stay ahead of rivals in a highly competitive industry. "By acquiring Astreya and its proprietary AI tooling and production-grade infrastructure platform, which is complementary to Cognizant's AI builder stack, we will be even better-positioned to help clients architect their platform-led AI systems and operationalise them at scale," Chief Executive Ravi Kumar S said. The Astreya deal builds on a recent run of acquisitions aimed at strengthening Cognizant's AI business. The company bought tech consulting firm 3Cloud in January to expand its Microsoft Azure capabilities and acquired digital engineering firm Belcan in 2024 for nearly $1.3 billion. Founded in 2001, Astreya has spent nearly a decade managing data center infrastructure, AI lab environments and enterprise networks for six of the so-called Magnificent Seven tech firms. Cognizant, valued at $26 billion, has lost more than a third of its market value this year, weighed down by a weak demand outlook for IT services and AI-driven deflation fears.
