  • A track record of sourcing and closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals, ideally multi-location or upmarket.
  • Proven skills in complex deal development, financial structuring, negotiation, and closing with both new and existing customers, with a focus on selling on value rather than deep discounting.
  • Proficiency with MEDDPICC or a comparable qualification methodology, disciplined pipeline management, and forecasting.
  • A builder’s instinct and the ability to create processes when they are missing.
  • Exceptional customer engagement and active listening, with the ability to solve problems for operators rather than simply pitch products.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to engage executive stakeholders.
  • Comfort educating customers on United States credit card processing fundamentals, including surcharging and processing nuances.
  • Strong organizational skills and a disciplined, process-driven approach to selling, reporting, and tracking.
  • Ability to travel 30% or more.
Responsibilities
  • Build a qualified pipeline of multi-location grocery, liquor, and convenience operators through category research, cold calling, networking, and collaboration with SMB Retail teams.
  • Run disciplined discovery with buying committees and translate inventory depth, scan data, shrink, margin, and compliance considerations into a compelling case for Toast Retail.
  • Educate prospects on the Toast Retail value proposition through demonstrations and tailored business cases, selling on platform value and outcomes.
  • Own the full sales journey from lead development and financial structuring through contract negotiation and close.
  • Collaborate with Account Service and Implementation to ensure a seamless handoff for complex retail installations.
  • Manage lengthy, ambiguous sales cycles by engaging operations, finance, information technology, and merchandising stakeholders and developing internal champions.
  • Partner with Legal, Deal Desk, Business Operations, and Finance to structure deals and negotiate terms aligned with Toast’s goals.
  • Work with Product, Marketing, and Enablement to close gaps in a repeatable mid-market retail sales motion and escalate unresolved issues.
  • Convert successful live-deal practices into discovery notes, demonstration flows, and business case models for future account executives.
  • Bring mid-market retailer needs to the product roadmap with specific evidence.
  • Optimize for long-term realized revenue by evaluating deal economics and making thoughtful trade-offs on pricing, discounts, and terms while protecting Toast’s bottom line.
  • Maintain execution, prioritization, and follow-through standards in Salesforce and the broader go-to-market technology stack, and help establish conversion benchmarks.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience selling into or operating within grocery, convenience, liquor, or specialty retail.
  • Fluency in retail operations, including inventory depth, stock-keeping unit management, scan data, shrink, category management, age verification and compliance, fuel, and foodservice.
  • Experience selling into franchised organizations and navigating franchisor and franchisee requirements, buying processes, and stakeholder management.
  • Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders on complex requests for proposals; experience helping write a request for proposal for a prospect beginning its evaluation is a bonus.
  • Experience helping establish a new segment, vertical, or sales motion, especially taking a small and medium-sized business product upmarket.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth technology environment.
