Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's shoppers warned over recalls.

Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's shoppers warned over recalls. Shoppers face fresh warnings after mugs, bags and baby sleeping items were pulled from sale. Retailers including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Argos and Asda have recalled products this week alongside an urgent alert from safety regulators. This comes after earlier product warnings were issued across UK supermarkets for items ranging from skincare to garden tools. UK supermarket rankings in 2026 Tesco recall. Tesco has urged customers to stop using its F&F Home Glass Latte Mug because of a manufacturing fault. (Image: Archive) The defect means the glass is prone to breaking during normal use, posing a risk of injury to users. All batches of the mug purchased between September 2025 and August 2026 are affected by the notice. Customers can return the mug to any Tesco store for a full refund without needing a receipt. A statement from Tesco said: "As a precautionary measure, Tesco is recalling all batches of its F&F Home Glass Latte Mug purchased between September 2025 to August 2026 inclusive. "This is due to a manufacturing issue that may cause the glass mug to break during normal use, posing a risk of injury. "If you have purchased the product affected, please do not use it and instead return it to any Tesco store for a full refund." Tesco added that no other products are affected and directed shoppers in Ireland to customer services on 1800 248 123. Sainsbury's and Argos recall. Sainsbury's and Argos have recalled three tote bags from the Tu clothing range over chemical safety risks. Testing found the items contained excessive concentrations of phthalates, which are compounds used to soften plastics that can cause reproductive harm. The recalled items are the Tu Pu Tan Curved Top Shopper with item number 147160412, the Tu Black Croc Winged Tote Bag with item number 147166081, and the Tu Brown Belt Handled Core Shopper with item number 147789704. Sold at selected Sainsbury's supermarkets as well as through the Tu and Argos websites, the bags failed retailer safety standards. A spokesperson for Sainsbury's said: "Sainsbury's are recalling the above products due to excessive concentrations of phthalates, which pose a chemical safety risk. "Prolonged exposure to phthalates may be harmful to human health. "As a result, the products don't meet Sainsbury's safety requirements. "We're asking customers who have purchased any of these items to stop using them and return them to their local Sainsbury's store for a full refund." Shoppers can contact Sainsbury's on 0800 028 8303 or Argos customer services on 0800 011 3462. Asda recall. Asda has issued a voluntary recall for a ladies bag after chemical testing found excessive phthalate levels. (Image: Google Street View) The affected item is the Front Pocket XBody Bag carrying product code 1100265415001. Regulatory limits apply to phthalates such as Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate because prolonged exposure can pose health risks and damage reproductive systems. No safety incidents have been reported, but the supermarket stated the recall was initiated as a precautionary step. An Asda statement said: "While no safety incidents have been reported, we are taking this action to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and to maintain our commitment to consumer safety. "If you have purchased this bag, please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund. "You do not need your receipt. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused." Customers with questions can contact Asda Customer Relations on 0330 053 0111. Urgent alert on baby sleeping bags. Parents and carers have been told to stop using baby sleeping bags that feature hoods or lack armholes. The Office for Product Safety and Standards issued the product safety alert on Thursday, October 1, 2026. Without armholes, infants can slip completely inside the bag where fabric covers their face, while hoods can slide over airways and cause overheating. Officials confirmed these design flaws create severe hazards of suffocation, fatal injury and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Nearly 50 product recalls and safety notices have been issued across the UK for baby sleeping bags since 2023. Baby sleeping bags complying with voluntary British standard BS EN 16781:2018 remain safe to use and are exempt from the notice. Outside pramsuits, footmuffs and specific swaddling products are also excluded from the alert. Consumers who bought an unsafe sleeping bag marketed for unsupervised cot sleep can seek redress from the seller under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024. What is a product recall? When a problem is discovered with an item, products can either be withdrawn from shelves or recalled from buyers. A withdrawal removes stock from retail display, while a recall asks customers who already purchased the item to return it. The Food Standards Agency monitors food safety alerts, while the Office for Product Safety and Standards oversees consumer product safety notices across the UK. Retailers display point-of-sale notices in stores and publish recall guidance online explaining why products have been removed. Anyone who has purchased a recalled product should stop using it immediately and follow the retailer's instructions to claim a full refund.

Asda rolls out pink trolleys at selected Wales stores for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Asda rolls out pink trolleys at selected Wales stores for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Asda is rolling out Tickled Pink trolleys in selected Welsh stores this Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Friday 2 nd October 2026 8:00 am SPREAD THE NEWS Colleagues at Asda Wrexham with the Tickled Pink Trolleys (Asda) NEW research, released this week by Asda, finds that more than a third (38%) of people living in Wales admit to having never checked their chests, or having a checking routine, highlighting the need for continued awareness and education around breast cancer symptoms and early detection. Currently, 1 in 7 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime in the UK. This year alone, around 55,500 women and around 400 men are expected to get a diagnosis. Despite this, according to a new report from Asda, 33% of Brits admit to having never checked their chests. That figure climbs even higher in pockets of the country known as 'checking deserts': Wales (38%), the West Midlands (39%), Scotland (37%), the East Midlands (36%), London (35%) and Yorkshire (31%). The findings place Wales among Asda's map of key 'checking deserts' and have prompted Asda to roll out 500 pink trolleys in 10 stores across these regions to increase awareness and stop shoppers in their tracks, including Welsh stores in Llanelli and Wrexham. Breast checking awareness remains important nationwide, with 47% of those surveyed keen to keep a closer eye on their own health and 36% wanting to be more aware of potential signs and symptoms. Yet 15% aren't confident they would know what to do5. Get your latest local news for free in your email inbox The new pink trollies contain chest checking posters as well as a QR code taking shoppers to chest checking guidance and signs and symptoms of breast cancer by charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!. The QR code on the trolley handles also takes shoppers straight to Asda's Pledge-o-Meter; a live tracker of people pledging to check their chests regularly. Taking just seconds, shoppers are encouraged to pledge to check, share it with their friends and family, and choose to make a small donation to Asda Tickled Pink at the same time. Link to the Tickled Pink pledge page can be found here. The pink trolleys are not the only way that Asda Tickled Pink is encouraging people to check their chests. Tickled Pink products are available across Asda stores this October displaying chest checking messaging, as well as around 900 million till receipts printed by Asda over the course of the year. Mary Williams, Community Champion at Asda Wrexham said: "As a Community Champion, I'm passionate about supporting causes that matter to local people. I've worked at Asda for 26 years and have proudly supported the Tickled Pink campaign every year. While I'm privileged to help lead our fundraising efforts, none of it would be possible without the incredible support of my colleagues. Their commitment and enthusiasm are the backbone of everything we do for Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! "With almost four in ten people in Wales saying they've never checked their chest, we're hoping to encourage more people in Wrexham and right across the nation to take that simple but important step." Also in the news "Our Tickled Pink campaign has raised over £100 million in the last 30 years. We are driving awareness of breast cancer and early detection by encouraging everyone to check their chest. Together, we're putting breast cancer awareness on everyone's list," says Emma Betts, Charity Partnerships Manager from Asda. "We're hoping our customers will embrace our bold new pink trolleys and sign our pledge where we hope to have 1,000,000 more customers checking this Autumn, and beyond." Carrie Green, associate director, philanthropy and partnerships at Breast Cancer Now, said: "The Tickled Pink partnership has achieved amazing things over the last 30 years, but with a third of Brits admitting they've never checked their chest, it's clear more vital awareness work is needed. It's fantastic to see Asda turning their trolleys pink and sharing guidance on signs and symptoms, whilst encouraging customers to check themselves regularly. The sooner breast cancer is found, the more likely treatment is to be successful, meaning chest checking can save lives." Natalie Haskell, CEO at CoppaFeel! said: "These pink trolleys bring a vital reminder directly into communities where people are least likely to be checking, helping to start conversations and making breast awareness part of everyday life. We're proud to be a part of Asda Tickled Pink to reach people locally with the confidence to know what's normal for them and act early if something changes." In the 1990s, 70% of women survived breast cancer for 5 or more years6. Thanks to the power of research and advances in how the disease is detected, diagnosed and treated, this number is now nearly 90%7. Asda Tickled Pink's funding has fuelled this progress over the last three decades. In total it has raised over £100 million for world-class research, vital education and life-changing support. Pink trolleys are being rolled out across selected Asda stores in 'checking deserts' throughout October, with stores from Llanelli to Colindale championing Breast Cancer Awareness month. Simply pick up a pink trolley and find out more about how you can begin your checking routine. SPREAD THE NEWS More Stories

Asda signs £250m long-term supply deal with Len Wright Salads.

Asda signs £250m long-term supply deal with Len Wright Salads. 28th September 2026 Asda has agreed a £250m, 10-year supply partnership with British grower Len Wright Salads as the supermarket looks to strengthen its domestic fresh produce supply chain. The agreement, worth around £25m a year and running until 2036, extends a relationship between the two businesses that has lasted for more than 35 years. Lancashire-based Len Wright Salads is a family-owned business that has been growing salads since the 1960s. It supplies the majority of Asda's own-label prepared bagged salads, as well as selected stir-fry vegetable lines. Around 37 million bags of salad are distributed to Asda stores each year from a dedicated facility serving the retailer. Asda said the long-term contract would provide greater security of supply in the fresh produce category while giving Len Wright Salads greater certainty to invest in its workforce, facilities and British-grown production. Jenny Cannon, Senior Director for Produce at Asda, said: "Len Wright Salads has been a trusted partner for more than 35 years, and this long-term agreement reflects its shared commitment to British produce. "Long-term partnerships like this are a great example of how we're giving suppliers the confidence to invest for the future, helping to back British growers and build resilience across our supply chain, while ensuring a reliable supply of high-quality produce for our customers for years to come." Ian Torley, Director at Len Wright Salads, added: "Kamcity is incredibly proud to strengthen its long-standing partnership with Asda through this landmark 10-year agreement. Having supplied Asda for over 35 years, it is a fantastic recognition of the trust, quality and service at the heart of its relationship. "As a grower-owned British business, this long-term commitment gives us the confidence to continue investing in British growing, our people, facilities and technology. We're excited about the next chapter and what we can achieve together over the next 10 years." The agreement forms part of Asda's wider approach to British sourcing. In 2024, the retailer completed the rollout of LEAF Marque certification across its UK fresh produce growers, covering more than 500 farms. The certification requires participating growers to implement measures covering areas including biodiversity, water management, soil health and long-term landscape conservation.

Asda launches seven-strong own-label beer & cider range.

Asda launches seven-strong own-label beer & cider range. 25th September 2026 Asda has expanded its own-label alcohol offer with the launch of Asquith 1965, a seven-product beer and cider range developed with a number of UK and European breweries. The range covers lager, cider, stout, bitter and IPA styles, with prices starting at £1 per 440ml can when purchased as part of selected multipacks. It is available exclusively at Asda in stores and online from this week. Products include a 5% ABV 1965 Lager brewed with Damm at Eagle Brewery and a 6.8% Heritage Orchard Cider produced by Westons. Both are priced at £5 for four 440ml cans and £10 for 10 cans. Siren Craft Brew is producing the 4.1% Irish Nitro Stout, while Yorkshire-based Ossett Brewery is behind a 3.4% Session Best Bitter. Leeds-based Kirkstall Brewery has developed Break the Cycle, a 4.3% Session IPA. Asda has also partnered with Croatia's The Garden Brewery for two products: the 4.6% Keep Rolling Hazy IPA and 5.8% Stormy Maine Hazy NEIPA. The two beers are priced at £2.50 per 440ml can. Break the Cycle is also priced at £2.50 per can and is included in a four-for-three promotion, bringing the price of four cans to £7.50. The launch forms part of Asda's efforts to broaden its own-exclusive beer range beyond mainstream lager and provide customers with a wider selection of craft and traditional beer styles at different price points. Ryan Truswell, Beer and RTD Buying Manager at Asda, said: "With more beer drinkers looking beyond traditional lagers and exploring craft, heritage and flavour-led styles, Asquith gives its customers the chance to discover something new without the premium price tag. Rather than simply competing on price, Kamcity has developed Asquith to offer more beer for your money, while still delivering real quality and character. "We've worked with some fantastic breweries and brewing partners to create a range that has genuine provenance and great flavour behind every can. What's particularly exciting is the breadth of the collection, Asquith is our way of showing that great beer should be accessible to everyone."
