About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of SRE, DevOps, or platform engineering experience, including on-call or incident response duty, SLO or monitoring ownership, and deployment pipeline and infrastructure work for production services.
  • A software development background building and shipping backend services, with the ability to read application code during investigations and write production-quality automation in at least one language such as Go or PHP.
  • Hands-on Kubernetes experience with Helm, manifests, deployment strategies, and debugging application-level performance and networking issues on GKE or another managed Kubernetes platform.
  • Experience building monitors, dashboards, and SLOs/SLIs on a modern observability platform; Datadog is preferred, while Prometheus/Grafana experience is also relevant, and familiarity with OpenTelemetry is required.
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform or Terragrunt, for collaboration with platform teams.
  • Experience with GCP, including IAM, networking, and managed services.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI and/or GitHub Actions.
  • Programming or scripting proficiency sufficient to build automation and tooling, such as Python, Go, or Bash.
  • Practical experience with incident response, post-mortems, and driving reliability improvements from incidents.
  • Experience in payments, fintech, e-commerce, or gaming involving high-traffic transactional systems.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills for working daily with product development teams.

Responsibilities

  • Own application-level infrastructure, including Helm charts, Terraform configurations, Kubernetes deployments, runtime configuration, and service-level networking and integrations.
  • Own domain observability by designing and implementing SLOs/SLIs, monitors, alerts, and dashboards for critical services using Datadog and OpenTelemetry-based tooling.
  • Help establish and evolve CI/CD pipelines for domain services using GitLab CI and GitHub Actions, including deployment and rollback automation.
  • Perform capacity planning and performance tuning ahead of expected loads such as product launches, sales events, and regional rollouts, including load testing and investigating performance regressions.
  • Run Production Readiness Reviews for new services and major changes, and define and enforce production-readiness standards for the domain.
  • Support domain incident response by investigating complex incidents, contributing to post-mortems, driving follow-up reliability improvements, and maintaining runbooks.
  • Build domain-specific automation to reduce operational toil, including runbook automation, deployment helpers, and recurring operational scripts.
  • Maintain and advance a forward-looking reliability roadmap for the domain with product engineering leads.
  • Participate in product team planning, refinements, and architecture reviews, bringing reliability considerations into design decisions early.
  • Co-author company-wide SLO/SLI, capacity, and operational standards with the broader SRE team, and contribute improvements to shared SRE-operated subsystems.
  • Participate in the SRE duty rotation, supporting developers across the company.

Desired Qualifications

  • Datadog experience is preferred; Prometheus/Grafana experience is also relevant.
  • Kubernetes certifications.
  • Google Cloud Platform certifications.
  • HashiCorp certifications.
