Carrier Partnerships Lead

Full-TimeUpdated on 10/4/2026
$150k - $220k/yr
Mid
San Francisco, CA, USA
In PersonOn-site Monday through Friday in San Francisco; travel to carriers, wholesalers, and industry events as needed.

About the job

Requirements
  • You've built carrier, wholesaler, MGA, or distribution partnerships in commercial insurance, and you've personally opened and developed senior insurance relationships.
  • You know how appointments, programs, commissions, capacity, and distribution economics work.
  • You understand the difference between a signed agreement and a relationship that produces, and you measure yourself on the second.
  • You can turn operating data into a credible carrier-development case and negotiate from it.
  • You can work closely with account teams, underwriters, and market partners while keeping portfolio relationship ownership clearly yours.
  • You must work on-site in San Francisco Monday through Friday, with long days and travel to carriers, wholesalers, and industry events when the relationship calls for it.
  • You must be based in San Francisco or willing to relocate.
Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain the market map of Harper's carriers, wholesalers, MGAs, programs, appointments, constraints, and production paths by line, class, and state; keep relationship history, agreements, appetite changes, contacts, and commitments current.
  • Win appointments, preferred access, new programs, and senior relationships where Harper has credible demand, and take each effort to a real decision.
  • Own relationships with the people who control appetite, capacity, operations, and distribution strategy, showing up in person and by phone.
  • Send each carrier an urgency list of pending quotes, outstanding binds, upcoming renewals, and stuck submissions, and track issues until they are cleared.
  • Present carriers with volume, risk mix, submission quality, conversion, and operating capability to justify deeper access; negotiate commissions, fees, service expectations, data exchange, and escalation paths Harper can support.
  • Track portfolio performance, including submissions, quotes, binds, service issues, and relationship investment; conduct carrier reviews tying relationship effort to sent, quoted, bound, response, and service outcomes.
  • Create clear escalation paths so account-level teams know whom to contact and how to move a stuck issue, without taking over account ownership.
Desired Qualifications
  • Treat AI as leverage by using it to build urgency lists, pull production data, and prepare carrier reviews, then spend the saved time in front of carriers.
  • Be commercially aggressive without making promises the operation cannot keep.

About the company

Harper Group is an AI-native commercial insurance brokerage that connects small- and mid-sized businesses with more than 160 insurance carriers for workers’ compensation and general and professional liability. Its product works by using AI to run almost all licensed agency workflows—routing submissions, following up with underwriters, collecting documents, and managing pipelines—so the brokerage can complete client placements in about one to two days instead of several days, and handle a larger volume of customers each month. Harper differentiates itself from competitors through its heavy use of automation to reduce manual work and speed, enabling it to serve thousands of customers efficiently while maintaining relationships with a broad carrier network. The company’s goal is to scale brokerage operations, grow its engineering and brand, and broaden access to coverage for more businesses by increasing speed, accuracy, and capacity in its processes.

What believers are saying

  • Harper raised $47 million on February 26, 2026, led by Emergence Capital.
  • Harper served more than 5,000 businesses in 13 months and 1,000 monthly customers.
  • Harper posted 14 San Francisco roles in May 2026, signaling aggressive scaling after funding.

What critics are saying

  • Harper depends on carrier appointments; a few major insurers can starve inventory by 2027.
  • Commercial insurance service failures trigger cancellations, E&O claims, and reputation damage immediately.
  • AI-native brokerage economics remain unproven; one bad loss ratio or compliance scandal can kill Harper.

What makes Harper Group unique

  • Dakotah Rice and Tushar Nair built Harper as the broker, not software, in 2024.
  • Harper automates submission routing, underwriter follow-ups, and document collection across 160-plus carriers.
  • The platform closes workers' compensation and liability quotes in 24-48 hours, not weeks.
