Requirements
  • Must have an Indiana nursing license as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse.
  • One year of experience working with neuropsychiatric or behavioral challenges and/or individuals identifying with the developmental disability/intellectual disability population is preferred.
  • Knowledge of current trends and research in the use of psychotropic medications with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years old per licensure requirements.
  • Must have a valid Indiana driver's license and a driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of Damar's insurance carrier for positions requiring driving.
  • Must be clear of felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect, and other disqualifying criminal convictions.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
  • Must favorably meet and maintain Damar's background screening.
  • Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods and occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to operate office equipment, including a computer keyboard.
  • Must be able to travel to other locations using private or commercial transportation.
  • Must communicate effectively to exchange information.
  • Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to client behaviors, staff instructions, safety concerns, and emergencies, including aggressive, self-injurious, sexually maladaptive, or elopement behaviors.
  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance.
  • Must perform each essential function satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Responsibilities
  • Follow established health-related procedures and related policies throughout all areas of Damar.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures defined in the Employee Handbook and Damar Operational Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Collect and analyze clients' physical, psychological, environmental, self-care, educational, and anticipated discharge planning needs.
  • Complete physical and provisional mental health assessments upon admission.
  • Administer, document, and track client immunizations.
  • Administer, document, and track TB serum.
  • Administer and reconcile all routine and as-needed medications.
  • Prepare routine and as-needed medications accurately for client therapeutic family-time visits when needed.
  • Provide client and staff education on infection control practices, hygiene, medication side effects and actions, and medication administration and compliance.
  • Provide client diabetic care and education.
  • Monitor clients according to nursing unit policies and procedures.
  • Communicate changes in client legal, psychiatric, physical, or medical status to the attending physician or nurse practitioner.
  • Communicate and obtain internal and external consents for client medication orders as needed per the physician.
  • Inform the incoming shift of changes and client needs to promote continuity of care.
  • Review client medical records for accuracy and ensure nursing notes and documentation reflect current status and client progress.
  • Collect and document client data for the Department of Child Services Passport.
  • Comply with safety and security policies and procedures, including those regarding accidents and injuries.
  • Assist with physician assessments, manage timely follow-up, and ensure accurate transcription of orders.
  • Perform assessments as needed in a timely manner and send notifications according to policy.
  • Maintain accurate and legible documentation.
  • Participate in weekly interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Complete and update mandatory staff training and other licensure-related items in a timely manner.
  • Review physicians' orders monthly and rewrite orders and medication administration records for all units.
  • Deliver medications from the pharmacy to nursing stations.
  • Audit charts as assigned.
  • Update passports as assigned.

EEOC sues Damar Services, Inc., for disability discrimination. INDIANAPOLIS - Damar Services, Inc., an Indianapolis-based residential services provider for individuals with developmental disabilities, violated federal law when it refused to hire a deaf applicant, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit announced today.
