Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field, such as business/commerce, business management, or finance, or other related experience.
  • At least two to three years of experience in a financial institution, preferably in mortgage underwriting.
  • Comfort with software applications such as Microsoft Office and LMS.
  • Knowledge of credit.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate in a team environment.
Responsibilities
  • Approve or decline mortgage loan applications within lending limit authorities while meeting established deadlines and quality standards.
  • Review loan documents to determine whether the buyer, property, and loan conditions meet mortgage underwriting standards.
  • Conduct pre-fund quality assurance reviews and post-fund internal and external audits to ensure mortgages comply with internal and regulatory guidelines.
  • Apply due diligence when processing applications and reviewing documents, using additional search engines and tools for validation.
  • Identify suspicious scenarios or documents, investigate them, and escalate accordingly.
  • Build positive relationships with brokers and other partners.
  • Assist the Service team with insight on high-risk deals, including declines.
  • Provide pricing on all mortgage renewals to ensure profitability and consistency.
  • Serve as an escalation point for brokers and Business Development Managers.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in mortgage underwriting is preferred.
  • Experience using AI-powered tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar platforms is a plus.
