  • Ability to facilitate structured hazard identification, assess risk, prioritize mitigation, evaluate residual risk, and manage safety issues and change throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Ability to build and prioritize roadmaps and backlogs, make tradeoffs, define measurable outcomes, manage dependencies, and balance product value, delivery needs, technical feasibility, safety, and compliance.
  • Ability to align engineering, safety, validation, legal/regulatory, operations, customers, and leadership around safety objectives, decisions, evidence, and release readiness without relying solely on direct authority.
  • At least four years of experience spanning technical product management, autonomy/robotics, functional safety, systems engineering, machine controls, remote operations, safety engineering, regulatory compliance, or related technical leadership roles.
Responsibilities
  • Own and prioritize the Safety & Regulatory Compliance product backlog based on customer and business value, safety objectives, hazard severity, risk reduction, regulatory obligations, and program maturity.
  • Define the safety and compliance product roadmap for autonomous, semi-autonomous, and remote-controlled construction machine capabilities from proof of concept through production deployment and lifecycle support.
  • Partner with the Safety & Regulations division to translate applicable standards, regulations, corporate policies, safety analyses, and operational constraints into product requirements, functional requirements, acceptance criteria, and release criteria; monitor regulatory and standards changes and assess their product and roadmap impact.
  • Lead product-level safety planning and cross-functional hazard identification and risk-management activities, including system hazard analyses, machine-control safety analyses, operational risk assessments, and mitigation planning.
  • Partner with functional safety and engineering teams to define and maintain safety-related control functions, required performance levels, design constraints, verification expectations, and evidence needed to demonstrate effective implementation of risk controls.
  • Drive end-to-end traceability from hazards and regulatory obligations through safety requirements, architecture and design controls, software and hardware implementation, verification and validation, residual risk, and objective compliance evidence.
  • Define product-level safety readiness and compliance gates for demonstrations, pilots, releases, and production deployment, including go/no-go criteria, unresolved-risk disposition, exceptions, and escalation paths.
  • Partner with Cybersecurity and Systems Engineering to ensure safety-relevant security threats, data and communications dependencies, software updates, and connected-system failure modes are considered in the overall safety argument.
  • Build and maintain the product safety-case and compliance-evidence strategy and support audits, regulatory reviews, conformity assessments, certification activities, customer safety reviews, and deployment approvals.
  • Establish and monitor safety and compliance key performance indicators, including open safety risks, mitigation closure, verification coverage, safety-requirement traceability, compliance-evidence completeness, audit findings, and release readiness.
  • Communicate safety readiness, regulatory status, key risks, mitigation progress, certification milestones, and release constraints to technical teams, program leadership, customers, and other stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience leading safety and compliance strategy from concept and requirements through product roadmap execution, validation, deployment, and lifecycle support.
  • Experience with autonomous or semi-autonomous mobile machinery and/or remote operator control systems in earth-moving, mining, construction, agriculture, industrial, automotive, or other safety-critical applications.

  • Experience building or contributing to safety cases, compliance matrices, requirements-to-test traceability, regulatory submissions, audits, certification activities, or formal release-readiness reviews.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering, validation, functional safety, cybersecurity, legal/regulatory, quality, operations, customer/site teams, and senior leadership to resolve cross-domain safety issues and make risk-informed product decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex safety and regulatory topics in product, engineering, executive, customer, and regulator-ready language.

About the company

Caterpillar makes construction and mining machines, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and locomotives for contractors, mines, energy companies and data center builders. It is the world's largest maker of construction and mining equipment, and its yellow Cat bulldozers and excavators work in nearly every country. Customers buy or rent machines through independent Cat dealers, while its engines and turbines generate electricity and push natural gas through pipelines. Caterpillar earns money from equipment sales and from the parts and repairs that dealers supply over a machine's working life. It was formed in 1925 when California's Holt and Best tractor companies merged, and it is based in Irving, Texas.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Data centers drive growth: power generation sales jumped 72% in the June 2026 quarter on demand for generators and turbines.
  • Factory hiring is growing: a $1 billion North Carolina plant, announced September 2026, is expected to create 1,950 jobs.
  • Recurring service work adds stability: parts and service brought in $24 billion in 2025, over a third of sales.

What critics are saying

  • Tariffs keep getting costlier: in August 2026, Caterpillar forecast $2.2 billion of 2026 tariff costs, up from 2025's $1.8 billion.
  • Patent fight threatens imports: in December 2025, rival Bobcat asked US trade regulators to ban some Cat loaders and excavators.
  • Expect five office days a week: since June 2025, US office staff must come in daily, and attendance affects reviews.

What makes Caterpillar unique

  • Power, not bulldozers, is its biggest business: engines and turbines brought in $28.6 billion in 2025, topping construction's $25.1 billion.
  • It runs its own lender: Cat Financial's overdue loans fell to 1.31% in June 2026, the lowest since 1998.
  • It also makes gas turbines: San Diego-based Solar Turbines builds 1 to 39 megawatt units for pipelines and power.

Tokenized stock trading surges overseas to $11.31B on Robinhood Chain as Goldman, Microsoft object in US

Tokenized stock trading is growing overseas while major US companies resist it at home, according to Bitwise Asset Management's latest quarterly report. On Robinhood Chain, tokenized stock volume rose from $526 million in July to $2.21 billion in August, then to $11.31 billion in September. Tokenized equities were also the fastest-growing category on Solana. Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Caterpillar, McDonald's, Western Digital, and Alphabet have objected to tokenized versions of their shares trading on OKXICE, a venue launched by crypto exchange OKX and Intercontinental Exchange. Sixteen companies have now objected. The US Securities and Exchange Commission's innovation exemption lets companies opt out. OKXICE co-chairman Andrew Cuomo said many companies would "wait and see" before taking part.
