About the company

ConsumerAffairs is a consumer advocacy platform that helps people make informed decisions about products and services. It provides reviews, rate comparisons, and expert advice on topics like home warranties, mortgages, and other financial products. The platform does not issue loans or make credit decisions; instead it shows rates from licensed lenders and connects consumers with third-party providers. Revenue comes from affiliate marketing and lead generation, as the site earns commissions or fees when users connect with service providers. Its goal is to empower everyday consumers with trustworthy information and transparent comparisons, helping them choose financial products and services with confidence.

What believers are saying

  • ConsumerAffairs reported nearly 97% of Americans rely on online reviews in 2026.
  • 2026 partnerships with AdT, Sunrun, and Auto Approve show monetizable brand demand.
  • Its 2026 awards and Trend Micro scam alerts keep consumers returning for fresh guidance.

What critics are saying

  • Trustpilot, Yelp, and BBB contest the same review-intent traffic and advertiser budgets.
  • 2016 Icon Health lawsuit alleged pay-to-play manipulation; that accusation still taints trust.
  • If lenders and brands distrust rankings, affiliate revenue collapses within one sales cycle.

What makes ConsumerAffairs unique

  • ConsumerAffairs' verified-review moat still powers 2026 Buyer’s Choice Awards.
  • Its consumer news engine spans mortgages, recalls, scams, and major-purchase decisions.
  • SolarReviews acquisition in November 2023 broadened authority in solar comparison shopping.
