Requirements
  • A master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related field, with a strong scientific computing emphasis.
  • At least 5 years of experience with high-performance computing programming, job scheduling, compilers, performance libraries, and high-performance computing infrastructure workflows.
  • Experience programming in high-level languages such as C++, Fortran, Python, Java, and MATLAB.
  • Experience with resource managers, usage and systems health monitoring, and data transfer and sharing tools.
  • Working experience with big data and knowledge of big data infrastructure.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, written, and verbal communication skills, including documentation and customer support.
  • Excellent programming and mathematics skills.
  • Proven expertise with the Linux operating system and Bash scripting.
  • Knowledge of CPU and GPU offerings and high-performance computing and artificial intelligence offerings in public cloud providers such as Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience designing, building, and deploying containers such as Docker and Singularity in a high-performance computing environment.
  • Ability to present technical concepts clearly to customers through demonstrations, proposals, and presentations.
  • Experience providing computational support for academic research.
  • Experience programming application programming interface access.
Responsibilities
  • Provide high-level support to scholars using NYU research computing infrastructure and services.
  • Consult directly with researchers to solve computational problems, design algorithms, develop and build applications, and advise on configurations, practices, and policies that may improve application performance.
  • Develop training materials, conduct training sessions, and provide online documentation to help scholars and collaborators use high-performance computing technologies and artificial intelligence tools in research and teaching.
  • Define and build new research services for next-generation infrastructure.
  • Work with NYU IT teams on testing, benchmarking, support, troubleshooting, and maintenance of high-performance computing resources and software.
Desired Qualifications
  • A doctoral degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • At least 7 years of work experience, with a record of success programming, architecting, deploying, and using high-performance computing applications.
  • Experience working in an academic research environment.
  • A quantitative background in probability and statistics.
  • Experience with GPU programming in a high-performance computing environment.
  • Experience managing structured and unstructured data.
  • Desire and ability to write blog or white paper content on relevant technical subjects.
  • Experience with parallel programming models such as OpenMP, MPI, and CUDA.
  • Experience parallelizing serial computational applications and working with data analytics.
