Fender reboots US-made flagship lineup with the American Professional series: "You don't evolve an instrument like the Strat or Tele by changing things just to make them new"

Fender reboots US-made flagship lineup with the American Professional series: "You don't evolve an instrument like the Strat or Tele by changing things just to make them new" Published 2 days ago Meet the new AmPro series, not like the old AmPro, as the Big F refreshes its greatest hits with V-Mod III pickups, upgraded hardware and electronics Fender has unveiled a wholesale refresh of its flagship US lineup of electric guitars and basses, as the American Professional Series II is replaced by the American Professional Series. That's right, no numbers to confuse things, just regular old AmPro, and a host of new features. Those features include Fender's all-new V-Mod III electric guitar pickups, Deep C neck profiles on the guitars, Medium and Slim Cs on the bass guitars, plus reengineered hardware and electronics (you will absolutely appreciate the taper and feel of the new ClassicGear Precision pots, and there are push-push tone functions for alternate pickup voicings). The American Professional lineup plays the Fender hits. There is a Stratocaster and an HSS Strat, a Telecaster, Jaguar, Jazzmaster, four and five-string Jazz and Precision Basses, and there's a real joker in the pack in the form of the Hotshot Telecaster, which has been adapted from the more vintage version in the American Professional Classic range and adds a V-Mod III Strat single-coil to the middle position. Latest Videos FromMusicRadar You'll notice subtly contoured neck heels, rolled fingerboard edges, a "Super-Natural" satin finish on the neck. These are priced just south of the two-grand price point and are designed and built for jobbing players and serious amateurs. This is not Fender reinventing the wheel as it does on, say, the American Ultra lineup. These straddle the vintage-modern continuum with practical upgrades. "You don't evolve an instrument like the Strat or Tele by changing things just to make them new," says Justin Norvell, Fender chief product officer, guitars and basses. "We balance modern, useful improvements with the familiarity of what has made them iconic." Image 1 of 5 The finish options speak to this design ethic. For instance, the Strat is available in some of the more bold new paint jobs, like Aged Cherry Burst and Dark Night, but also in Olympic White and 3-Color Sunburst.

"I'm the king cork-sniffer of vintage amps... but you cannot deny the fact that it sounded, at least to my ears, better and more consistent": Fender unveils Joe Bonamassa's Tone Master Twin - is it really better than the tube version? Published 5 hours ago The Tone Master '59 Twin-Amp JB Edition is here, and it's got some lungs on it. Joe Bonamassa tells Music Radar Company how it more than held its own in the Amp Shanty Joe Bonamassa has been teasing this. Having nailed his colours to the mast as a high-profile convert to the tonal capabilities and practicality of the digital guitar amp, he has now officially put his name to one, with Fender and the blues guitar superstar unveil the Tone Master '59 Twin-Amp JB-Edition. Finished in tweed, replete with vintage flourishes such as the chicken-head knobs on the control panel, this monster signature combo amp is created in the image of his original high-powered 5F8-A Twin from the late 1950s. It, too, is loud enough to send plaster falling from the walls. It similarly has that super-quick attack and the headroom required to play clean at volume (Music Radar Company has heard this amplifier, and it is obscenely loud in the best possible way). And yet there are no tubes involved. Latest Videos FromMusicRadar 5 songs powered by the Prophet 5 Music Radar Company is in Prophet-5 mode, as Music Radar Company celebrate five decades of the first 'proper' polysynth with five - ok six - glorious tracks Just look at image at the top of the page. Joe Bonamassa is more Charley Patton than Charles Atlas; there is no way he is lifting a tube-equipped Twin like that without turning purple or popping a hernia. This is one of the big selling points of Fender's Tone Master series, a range of amps that offers classic Fender amp tone in a more lightweight package, and adding some of the convenient features Music Radar Company see in today's digital designs. This is one Twin you can carry up the stairs. Bonamassa's Tone Master '59 Twin-Amp also has a balanced XLR out, with switchable onboard cab sims (you can customise these IRs with the Tone Master IR Manager app) for going direct. It has power scaling, taking it from a full-throated 85-watts down to a more bedroom-friendly half-watt setting via a five-way rotary dial. There is no question that this signature amp is a major coup for Fender. Given Bonamassa's standing as one of the great curator's of vintage amps, chief product officer of its Electronics and Digital divisions, Max Gutnik, describes the launch as a historic moment for the industry.

Fender brings back john 5's Ghost Telecaster and introduces new Phantom.

Fender brings back john 5's Ghost Telecaster and introduces new Phantom. John 5 is bringing a couple of very non-traditional Telecasters to Fender's lineup. The company has reintroduced the Ghost Telecaster while also launching the new Phantom Telecaster, with both models built around a stripped-down, high-output approach to the classic T-style design. The Ghost returns after previously being offered as a limited-run model, this time manufactured in Indonesia to bring the price down. It features an Arctic White finish with red binding and accents, a Nyatoh body, C-shaped maple neck, maple fingerboard with a 9.5" radius, and a pair of DiMarzio D Activator humbuckers. The new Phantom shares much of that same DNA, but swaps in a black finish, ebony fingerboard with a 12" radius, and a Floyd Rose FRTS2000 Special double-locking tremolo. Both guitars feature a single Volume control, a kill switch, and a three-way pickup selector mounted on the upper horn. In other words, these aren't exactly your grandpa's Telecasters. John 5's signature designs are built for high-gain playing, dive bombs, and plenty of kill-switch abuse while retaining the instantly recognizable Telecaster silhouette. Fender is also offering a Custom Shop version of the Phantom for players with considerably deeper pockets. That model features an Alder body with Ultra Contours, a 10- to 14" flat-laminated ebony fingerboard, Luminlay side dots, and the Floyd Rose setup. The Custom Shop Phantom carries a $6,000 price tag, while the standard edition goes for $1,299.99.
