Requirements

Completion of a formal nuclear medicine technology program is required.
No prior experience is required.
A current Texas state license and current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registry in Nuclear Medicine and/or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) registry are required.
Basic Life Support certification is required within 60 days of employment.
The role requires medium strength to position patients for examination or treatment.
Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, and walking are required; occasional reaching, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting are required.
Visual and hearing acuity are required, and depth perception is needed to examine exposed film for pertinent details.
The work involves possible exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals or detergents, moving mechanical parts, potential electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, and blood-borne pathogens.

Responsibilities

Prepare radioactive isotopes and calculate the specific amount and type of isotope for each examination.
Operate radioisotope devices to calibrate isotopes and record images.
Assay the quality of purchased isotopes and monitor for possible contamination using a Geiger counter.
Ensure equipment is in proper working condition using floods, daily quality control, and observation.
Maintain records of tests conducted, test results, and isotope use and disposition.
Attend required meetings and in-services.
Maintain patient confidentiality and handle protected health information appropriately.
Abide by the Huntsville Memorial Hospital Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
Maintain a safe work environment and report safety concerns appropriately.
Perform other related functions as required.

Description

Under general supervision, prepares equipment and patients for Nuclear Medicine procedures, safely and accurately performs nuclear scans as ordered and directed according to established practices and procedures. Maintains safe environment to deliver high quality patient care and safely measure concentrations of radioactive isotopes in specified body areas.
